Texas markets report a steady rise in turkey output as seasonal demand grows in the run up to the holiday. Producers note stronger sales, higher prices, and improved processing efficiency, with Oklahoma and nearby states showing similar trends.
Robstown reports Captain W L Wright, recently operated on at Burns Hospital in Caéro, has shown rapid improvement after three weeks. He and his wife spent time with Thomaston relatives before traveling to Kenedy for the early part of last week.
Postmaster Reese informs the Chronicle Journal of a Floresville postoffice mix up with Route 5 mail withdrawal due to poor roads. About 16 patrons will be affected as some must travel up to 2 1/4 miles farther for mail and many are urged to relocate mail boxes to Flores corner.
Crystal City Texas August 17 The Winter Garden District Chamber of Commerce reports a 33 18 percent gain in shipments over the previous year. Twelve thousand one hundred and eight carloads of produce were shipped out, 9 974 were shipped in. Excludes broken carlot express and parcel post shipments, which would add to totals.
DeWitt County Commissioners Court allocated 115000 dollars at Friday session to begin DeWitt’s portion of Highway 81, after State Highway Dept request. Bonds voted in 1924 with state and federal aid promised two to one. State will refund funds later as other counties完成 their projects. Road will extend hard surfaced from San Antonio to Cuero and gravel to the coast.
Dallas Aug 17 resolutions urged cooperation of all agricultural, commercial, and industrial groups with the marketing association of America to maintain a fair price for the 1927 cotton crop. A 25 cent per pound minimum price was fixed by about 200 farmers, bankers, and business leaders. Directors were elected, to choose a president later. The Texas division of the Farm Labor Union of America offered cooperation in loan to support the 25 cent price.
Ross Lawdon former Floresville boy and north Little Rock mayor visited his old hometown with wife and child. He spoke of his administration in North Little Rock Arkansas and the city’s improvements. Lawdon plans to return for Labor Day to attend a dedication of a major municipal project with the governor and other officials.
North Texas cotton farmers have ample pickers and ER Goss, superintendent of the U S farm labor bureau in San Antonio, warns cotton pickers in South Texas to remain at their posts or contact him before leaving for northern fields. Many have quit recently only to find sufficient workers already on hand.
Wilson County reports progress as peanuts begin moving from Stockdale with shipments this week. The first car was shipped August 6 and multiple cars are expected, signaling a fair yield for the season.
Bank resources in Texas have increased by 903 million dollars since 1910 while deposits in the same period show a corresponding growth. The data reflect a long term expansion in the state’s financial sector with growth driven by industrial activity and population increase across major cities.
