Chronicle-Journal recall prompted a first informal gathering on the school campus next Thursday night August 25. All town residents are invited to attend a well lighted event with sound equipment for a traditional community get together aimed at making the gathering a recurring monthly affair.
Representative J H Brown of this city guided a bill through the Texas Legislature during the stormy closing days of a special session. The measure, H B No 78, is now in the hands of Governor Neff and concerns a sensitive topic related to minors and instruments.
A large crowd attended the funeral of Pvt. Rollie Fields at Sutherland Spring on Wednesday afternoon. He was killed in action in France and buried in his home town after stores closed in his memory. Rev M P Elder led services and District Attorney W O Murray Jr gave a tribute. American Legion members served as pallbearers.
Washington August 16 Rep resentative Wurzbach visited the White House today with President discussing Republican affairs in Texas and the federal patronage picture. The talk was general in scope with no specific Texas offices named. The President aims to see more Texas congressmen elected in 1922.
Citizens laud a well equipped rest room as a splendid advertisement for Floresville praising its conveniences and operation. It is described as a source of civic pride and invites locals to donate pot plants and magazines to improve appearance and comfort.
Floresville pitcher Pete Richter dominated the game as Floresville defeated the visiting City club 8 to 0 before a large, loyal crowd at Floresville park. Jennings Bella starred for Floresville with four for four while Joe Tom Houston added a fence hit. Manager Carl Johnson contributed as expected and gate receipts topped 203 dollars amid strong local support.
A dairy cow fed on cattle disease fodder in the Houston area carried poison sufficient to kill 7,000 people in its paunch. Dr. A B Kingsley, a Kansas City veterinarian visiting for a month, announced the discovery as part of his investigation into the outbreak that is decimating cattle locally.
The Cemetery Association was entertained by Mrs. B Whitsett at her home on Friday afternoon August 12. Members answered roll call and paid monthly dues of 2 each. Collectors reported 3.50 for August. The association voted to pay 25.00 on the grave filler. Visitors included Miss Teas Lamertine Camp and others. Chicago August 17 thirty million dollars of 5.12 percent bonds will be issued at once following a meeting of the Association of Joint Stock and Banks. The money will be loaned to farmers through member banks to spur farm credit and development.
