Archbishop Lucey Sets Date For Polish Millennium

Archbishop Robert E. Lucey of San Antonio fixed Sunday October 23 1966 for the Polish Millennium celebration in the Archdiocese. The Black Madonna mosaic gifted by President Lyndon B Johnson will be blessed and installed at Panna Maria Immaculate Conception Church. The event marks Poland’s Christian conversion millennium and Poland’s constitutional start, with a renovation underway as architect Christopher Distefano of Victoria works on the old ninety year old church.

Jaycee Ettes Sponsor Paper Drive Plan

The Floresville Jaycee Ettes praise public support for the Benefit Baseball game on July 30. Proceeds benefited the Wilson County Association for Retarded Children, with plans to make the event annual and donate future proceeds to local charities. A Paper Drive is set for late August or early September, with details to follow.

St Hedwig Firemen Picnic Planned on Legion Grounds

The St Hedwig Volunteer Fire Dept plans a Sunday picnic on the St Hedwig American Legion grounds. Homemade country sausage will be served and visitors from Brazoria and San Antonio will attend with organizers Mrs. Joe H. Fietsam and Mr. and Mrs. Carl W. Hemmi. Mrs. Fietsam was recently discharged from the hospital.

Sacred Heart School to Open August 31 in Floresville

Sacred Heart School Floresville will open on Wednesday August 31 1966 for registration and assignments. Holy Mass at 8:00 a.m. will bless the new year for students and parents. A half day is planned. full day begins the next day. Many City Owners To Get Lower Taxes In 1966

City property owners will pay less in 1966 after Floresville City Council reduced the assessed value from 30 percent to 25 percent of actual value. The move aligned with the City Equalization Board’s efforts to balance property values across the city. Farmers Home Beef Cattle Tour Highlights Wilson County

Farmers Home Administration led a group of 31 to a Beef Cattle and Coastal Bermuda grass tour in Wilson County on August 11 visiting the Riley Cooper and Anton Lyssy farms. Cooper’s 223 acre operation uses Coastal Bermuda across four fields with rotation, fertilization, and brushing plans including purebred cows and a Brahma cross endeavor. Lyssy’s 342 acres, mostly Coastal Bermuda in three tracts, rotates cattle weekly, with 170 head grazed at about two acres per cow and calf, plus a mineral protein mix. Attendees included FHA officials and local farmers. organizers emphasized proper grazing rotation, fertilization, and weed control to achieve above-average net calf income.

Donaho Awarded 50 Year Scottish Rite Cap

R C Donaho of Austin received a 50 year Scottish Rite cap from the Supreme Council of Washington DC. He joined the Rite in 1915 and was Master Mason in 1916 before becoming superintendent of Rockport Schools. He later taught elsewhere in Wilson County and held multiple lodge offices. He is a Past Deputy Grand Master of the 46th Masonic District and a member of Alzafar Shrine.

Carl Johnson Dies After Long Illness
