Large Crowd Expected For Floresville Peanut Festival Talent Show

The Wilson County Farm Bureau announces more than 20 entries for the Home Talent and Variety Show at Floresville Gym Thursday night August 24. Floresville School Band opens the program with many acts including Farm Rhythm Boys, dancing, piano, strings, and comedy. Admission 50 cents adults 25 cents children. Over 50 attendance prizes offered by Floresville, Poth, and Stockdale firms. Prize list includes lamps, bedding, paint, shoes, kitchenware, paint, tools, flour, oil, and services from local merchants. Special notice invites additional donations to support attendance prizes.

Wilson County Urged to Report First Election Returns

The Chronicle Journal seeks Wilson County aid to be among Texas leaders in election night returns for the August 26 Democratic run off. Editors urge 26 election judges and clerks to relay results quickly, especially from rural precincts, with immediate calls after polls close. The plan covers five state races and one county commissioner race in Wilson County Precinct No 3.

Splendid Rains Over Wilson County Reported Sunday

Wilson County received a welcome rain Sunday from early morning to noon with scattered heavier amounts. Floresville measured about 1.50 inches, higher readings reported elsewhere. Rainfall ranged from 1 inch to around 8% inches, aiding late peanuts crops and pastures across the county.

Lynn Stephens Denied New Trial In Slaying

Lynn Stephens, convicted April 21 in Floresville for the slaying of Federal Agent Charlie Stevens, was denied a new hearing. Judge H. D. Barrow overruled the motion and sentenced Stephens to 88 years. The hearing occurred Wednesday with defense attorney Leonard Brown filing 34 exceptions.

Follow-up Nurse X-ray Survey by Wilson County Tuberculosis Assn

Mrs Marion Montgomery, a registered nurse, works with Mrs Carolina Quintanilla to conduct a follow-up chest X-ray survey. They assist those diagnosed with tuberculosis or suspected cases, offer affordable X-rays, teach self care, and facilitate entry to the State Sanatorium at San Angelo. During June, 3,872 people had chest X-rays. the effort is funded by Christmas Seal sales and county support.

Record Holstein cow sets milk and butterfat marks

Fredland Jewel Ormesby, a registered Holstein Friesian cow owned by W M Donaho of Floresville Texas, completed an 865 day production test with 471 pounds of butterfat and 14946 pounds of milk. Milking occurred three times daily, the cow was over four years old at start, testing supervised by Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas in cooperation with The Holstein Friesian Association of America.

Connally Attends Democratic Meet In Austin

Connally, Floresville native Commissioner Merrill TE Connally, attended a Democratic Executive Committee meeting in Austin to canvass July primary results and discuss party matters ahead of the State Democratic Convention in Mineral Wells. Poth Church Picnic Draws Large Crowd Despite Rain

A Sunday Blessed Sacrament Parish barbecue at Poth drew a huge crowd despite Saturday night and Sunday morning rain. Cooks prepared tender barbecue and sides while the day offered entertainment and a big evening dance with Joe Paketk's Orchestra from Shiner. Parishioners thank committee workers and everyone who helped make the annual event a splendid success.

Old Settlers Invited to Floresville Peanut Festival Homecoming

Floresville invites all Old Settlers to the Sth annual Peanut Festival Homecoming on September 22 28. Old Pioneers Day on September 23 will feature fiddlers old time music dances and a crowning. M M Hughes heads the committee and the new high school gym will host the event. Residents urged to invite former Wilson County citizens to return home and join the celebration. A complete program will be printed later.

The city council has installed a modern four faced stop light at the center of the square to improve traffic safety. Drivers are urged to watch for the new signals and follow them to prevent accidents and injuries.
