The FHS school band schedules a special program at the Arcadia Theatre on August 26 and 27. Half of receipts will be donated to fund a Dallas trip for the ensemble.
About 82 officers and committee members of the Floresville Peanut Festival Association were honored with an outdoor picnic hosted by Lone Star Brewery in San Antonio on Monday evening. Irwin W. Jenkins of Poth sponsored the event and the participants thanked the hosts after an educational visit to Buchhorn exhibits and a plant inspection.
Band members are urged to attend daily practice from 7 to 8 pm for the Dallas trip to the State Fair of Texas on Saturday October 6. Attendance is mandatory to be included, with section drills scheduled for Brass Monday, Drum Wednesday, Reed Friday, and marching Tuesday and Thursday, following a late August-September start.
Floresville Methodist Church members voted unanimously at a special conference after the 11 o clock service on Sunday August 12 to authorize trustees and the finance committee to proceed and secure a loan to start work on the new parsonage. The building contract was awarded after five bids and substantial pledges have been received with more expected. a sizeable fund was already in the treasury for the project.

Arcadia Theatre owners Mr and Mrs George Dauik pledge 50 percent of ticket sales for Sundays August 26 and 27 for a showing of The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse. B M Myers Sr died at his Floresville home on Saturday August 11 1962 at 9 PM aged 77 years 8 months 12 days He had lived most of his life in Floresville with work in ranching and as a U S Department of Agriculture tick eradication inspector Burial occurred Monday at Floresville Cemetery Pastor Jess Mothersbaugh led services with pallbearers named and floral offerings sent to the Methodist Church The family noted his long service to the community born November 29 1884 in Lavaca County He earlier worked in the Eschenburg store and on Thornton Stevens ranch later moving into Floresville continuing his residency in the area
The La Vernia Boy Scout Troop moved into a new hut that is not yet furnished. They request donated furniture to help outfit the space and invite community help.
Baumann s Grocery owned by Mike and Henry Baumann moves into a modern 60 by 110 foot concrete and tile building in Floresville. They began moving stock Sunday and Monday August 5 and 6 with grand opening to be announced. The store opens August 7 with three checkouts and a barbecue pit on site.
Funeral rites for Erby E. Swift 71 longtime lawyer who died August 6 1962 were held at Porter Loring Funeral Home San Antonio with Rev Rose W. Dye officiating. Entombment followed at Sunset Memorial Park. Swift, born in Wilson County Texas, practiced law after UT degree and lived in Mexico City for 40 years as counselor for Sinclairs, Todd Shipyards, and American Airlines, becoming American Airlines first Mexico president.
Floresville Lions Club weekly luncheon discussed joining a countywide polio vaccine program. President Flores welcomed Ray Fritze of American Cyanamid. The club voted to have the Health and Welfare Committee explore launching the program with local doctors and the County Health Officer.
The Farmers Gin at Poth, Wilson County, reports 1040 bales ginned so far in the 1962 season, exceeding the 1961 total of 1017 by 23 bales. It is the only cotton gin operating in Wilson County this season and has been for several years.

A massive Wednesday night blaze scorched between 376 and 400 acres of waist high Coastal Bermuda 1C grass on the John B Connally 4C Ranch west of Floresville near the Floresville Pleasanton road. Lightning likely sparked the fire, which spread before crews from Floresville Pleasanton and Poth halted it around 2:00 am. Hundreds of neighbors and ranchers aided with bulldozers and plows creating furrows around the ranch, preventing damage to homes barns and adjacent properties where no cattle were present. No injuries or ranch damage were reported beyond field losses.
