The Agriculture Secretary announced 1961 crop peanut price supports averaging 2230.56 per ton, about 14 656 above last year, aimed at 88 percent of parity as of Aug 1. Base rates: 226 for Virginia type, 206 for runner, 229 for Spanish east of the Mississippi, and 225 for Spanish west of the Mississippi.
Floresville mourns as E M Saunders Sr a leading local furniture dealer dies of a heart attack at home after a day in town and a visit to San Antonio. Survived by wife Martha Ernst Saunders son E M Saunders Jr sister Mrs Berta Baker and brothers Willie Charlie and Hugh Saunders with grandchildren Maury and Roger. Funeral at Murray Funeral Home conducted by Rev A E Loudon with burial in San Antonio lawn Cemetery.

Donaho's 122 cow Holstein herd from Floresville Texas posted an average 427 pounds of butterfat and 12 672 pounds of milk per year under the Herd Improvement Registry. Eight milkings daily, tests supervised by Texas A M College and Holstein headquarters, with 704 pounds of butterfat and 20 255 pounds of milk credited. Land O Lakes Gold cow owned by Donaho completed an 865 day test milking nine times daily at age four years four months.
