Deserter from U S Army Caught by Local Officers
Albert Gallette a private of Battery D 21st Field Artillery stationed at Leon Springs was arrested Tuesday night about two miles this side of Path by deputy sheriffs Wade Lorenz and Pablo Casares as he sat on a railroad track trying on citizen clothes. He was jailed locally and taken to San Antonio to be turned over to military authorities. He said he had been gone about two days aiming to return to Boston Massachusetts.

Death of William Batey in Stockdale area
William Benjamin Batey aged 68, longtime resident of the eastern county, died at his home north of Stockdale Tuesday August 14 at 5 p.m. The remains were laid to rest in Denville cemetery Wednesday. A large family survives. The Chronicle-Journal extends condolences.
