Floresville school opens Monday September 7 1936 for the 1936 37 session. The Floresville School Board votes not to charge tuition for the ensuing year. A 50 cent monthly fee is required for typing machine service and upkeep. No child under six may attend due to crowded primary grades. Janitor job awarded to J B Scott.
Six proposed constitutional amendments to be voted on November 8 are now published in the Chronicle Journal. The paper urges readers to read and study the amendments carefully and suggests cutting them out for closer review before election day.
Wayne C Taylor acting secretary of the treasury reports U S Savings Bonds exceed half a billion dollars in maturity value. From March 1 1935 to year end sales reached 259 million with daily averages around 1 million. For 1936 daily sales jumped about 50 percent versus 1935 and July 1936 shows roughly 55 percent higher than 1935. Bonds available at post offices nationwide.
Dan Wright son of Mr and Mrs Elmo Wright of this city sustained a severe cut on the forehead and a gash from a fall from a car while helping on a paper route. He remained unconscious briefly but medical x ray showed no skull fracture and he has nearly recovered after several days in bed.
Atty De Witt Murray led Wilson County to certify a complete list of delegates to the State Democratic Convention in Fort Worth on September 8. The slate includes Dewitt Murray Otto Schraub Will T Swift S W Teas Henry McDaniel Sam Fore Jr Adolph Haese Eugene Hastings Ben Rodriguez and many others all instructed to vote as a unit. S. W. Teas served as secretary of the county convention.
A San Antonio committee met with New Braunfels organizers to plan German Day on October 9 as part of German Week. The event ties to a Saengerfest in San Antonio October 10 and 11 and includes breaking ground for a Texas German Pioneers Auditorium site.
Dallas report notes a Texas Democratic push to duplicate the 1932 feat by delivering the largest state-wide majority for the New Deal. The item frames the upcoming plan as a bold test of party support in Texas during August.

Southern Pacific Negro Singers of San Antonio will perform in a concert at Wilson Co. Fair Grounds Prombec Thursday Aug. 20 at 8 30 P M with 150 local voices under Mrs Fay Brooks. They have sung for Schreiner Institute Kerrville Fredericksburg High Boerne High and many San Antonio and valley churches. A woman whistler will accompany them. Reserved seats available for white patrons. Proceeds go to colored churches of Floresville.
Miss Effie Irvin of Pandora was a visitor here on Wednesday, spending time with local residents and sharing news of her travels.
Dallas August report on Texas Centennial Exposition Tuesday Children's Day offers 12 year olds and younger nickel admissions with many free or reduced price attractions. Cavalcade of Texas, LaSalle era scenes, Alamo siege, San Jacinto battle reenactment, 80 horse Troop F drills, clowns, marionettes, bands, and a Jubilaires choir entertain. Hotel and restaurant prices stay steady, aiding families to enjoy the event affordably.
Representative R. W. Calvert and former Representative Dero D. Cow ley of Hillsboro stopped in Floresville at noon on their way to the coast country. Both are prominent Texas legislators and Calvert was a strong Speaker of the House contender last year. Patronize Home-Town Merchants.
Washington D C Aug 8 A U S Department of Agriculture forecast a 1 842 609 bale rise in the U S cotton crop this year estimating production at 12 481 000 bales of 500 pounds gross weight This compares with 10 686 991 bales last year and 99 636 mentioned in the report remains to be clarified by the source.
Washington Aug 10 the federal crop reporting board forecast a corn crop for 1986 of 1 439 135 000 bushels the smallest indicated harvest in over 500 years. Hot dry weather reduced corn production about 2 6 percent from prior estimates and weeks of heat and drought are blamed for the drop.
H B Zachry Co contractors began work this week on the Floresville and Stockdale road project. Two carloads of machinery arrived early, with another due by week end. W P Allison leads as superintendent. offices are in the former Alamo Lumber Co. building near the depot. The contract covers topping 11.2 miles of road and will employ many workers for about four months.
The Blessed Sacrament Catholic church at Poth celebrates its annual feast on Sunday August 23 at Herman Sons Hall with all day festivities. A barbecue dinner with barbecued meats sausage and chicken plus trimmings is served. plates cost 40 cents for adults and 25 cents for children. George's Entertainers provide music for day and night entertainment. John Wagner serves as general chairman.
AUSTIN Aug 10 Texas Governor James V Allred leads a novel volunteer county parole board system drawing national attention. First Southwestern States Parole Conference set in Galveston September 2 3 with theme Breaking the Vicious Circle of Crime. Governors from Arkansas Louisiana Oklahoma New Mexico Arizona and other state officials plan to attend.
Final official results from Texas July 25 indicate large totals with O S Lattimore re-elected to the Criminal Appeals bench and Governor James W Allred renominated by a 53 141 margin. Other state offices list high totals for Woodul McCraw McCureton Critz Hawkins Hawkins Adair Bullock Terrell Segrist and Mykleberg Seidemann in district race results.
In Karnes City Texas on August 19 Panna Maria hosts a Centennial Pioneer reunion with over 6600 expected to attend. A 9 30 a m field mass precedes a memorial dedication honoring the first Polish settlement in the United States founded in 1854. Two bishops and 60 clergymen are invited. a Chicago excursion train will bring Polish visitors to Dallas Exposition and Panna Maria.
The Marcelena and Sunnyside singing classes meet at Marcelena for their regular singing next Sunday afternoon August 16 at 2 30. Everyone who enjoys gospel songs is invited to be present and join the afternoon program. If you do not sing come out and enjoy the fellowship.
