A large force of workmen is on site accelerating the construction of the new brick high school. Every effort will be made to complete the building promptly and safely, with officials supervising the rapid progress and aiming to open as scheduled.
S Bros of San Antonio opens a modern service station on the Marr corner site with late design buft color tuceco. The facility includes new visible pumps free air and water for patrons a ladies rest room and other conveniences. They will carry a full line of accessories in addition to usual offerings.
An error in last Friday's Chronicle Journal misstated Stockdale melon shipments. The article notes 376 cars of watermelons have been shipped from Stockdale to date, with 4 or 5 more cars likely before season’s end, surpassing the town’s previous banner year of 247 cars two seasons ago. Stockdale is declared the leading melon shipping point in southwest Texas this season.
The school board closed a deal for new curtains and scenery for the auditorium of the new Floresville high school building. A ladies committee led by Mesdames J T Houston J C Houston and J W Ox frd organized the purchase with help from the school board. other notes cover community notices and the Chamber of Commerce planning. Loren Fore has returned home after two months at Hunt with the Teas family, and Chas Dewees was seen in Floresville en route to Karnes county holdings. A third Chamber event is announced with reports from meetings, a constitution committee, and plans for a follow up dinner and future gatherings as the effort moves forward.
Misses Lois Waldie and Elizabeth Wiseman of Floresville Girls Tennis Club captured the southwest Texas tournament doubles crown in San Antonio. They defeated the San Antonio pair Black and De Hymel in the semis and the Schieffer sisters 8-6 9-7 in the final to claim the silver loving cup. Floresville High had previously reached the Austin State contest semi finals in May.
A well attended Tuesday night luncheon and business meeting energized a Chamber of Commerce initiative. Spirit and support grew as attendees heard a keynote and discussed new plans aimed at boosting local commerce.
The Fraser Construction Co. restarted the Floresville waterworks project after a lengthy delay. A power ditcher arrived from Corpus Christi and digging and mains laying began last Friday and continues this week. WV Fraser is on site and promises a rush to completion.
Aug Malcher, manager of the Farmers' Gin Co. and the Farmers' Bowel ed Warehouse Co. of Path, was in Floresville last Friday on business. He came up after a large order of printing for the institutions with which he is connected and which were turned out by the Chronicle-Journal. Malcher expressed himself as very nice over the cotton prospects but did that he was still hopeful.
Legal steps to validate outstanding Wilson County road bonds start today with the first publication of Notives of Intention to Create Road Districts in Wilson County. Notices are filed under forms approved by the Texas Highway Association and signed by County Judge B Stevenson and stamped with the Wilson County seal.
By yesterday afternoon, the three Floresville gins had processed a total of 225 bales for the season, marking cumulative progress across the local cotton facilities.
