In Floresville they stopped for gas and, about a mile from town, the passengers forced him to halt and held him up, taking about 15 dollars and beating him. Sheriff Carnes and deputies arrested two young men near Stevens Ranch nine miles west of town Tuesday noon. they are held for examination.
Superintendent J E Swift provides the program for the Southwest Texas Teachers Institute to be held at Brackenridge High School in San Antonio from Monday September 5 through Friday September 9. Marshall Johnston conducts the institute with Swift on the executive committee. twelve Southwest Texas counties including Wilson will participate. All Wilson County teachers are urged to attend and Swift will supply further information.
Miss Lillie Blake daughter of Dr Blake is named among 17 honor students of the Freshman Class of 500 at Rice Institute this term. Floresville friends and the high school faculty celebrate the achievement highlighting local pride in academic distinction.
Wilson County dairymen plan a Labor Day excursion to visit large Texas dairy herds. Led by County Agent E D Beck and local chamber officials, the trip aims to study top cattle, spark better herd management, and boost Wilson County Fair exhibits October 26 27 28 29 with potential cattle sales and cross-county advertising.
A social dance will be held next Sunday night at the S P J S T Hall west of the river. August 14. Music is promised. Invitations extend to attendees.
A M Jackson of Stockdale Texas aged 51 was buried in Stockdale Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. He is survived by his widow one child one grandchild seven sisters and one brother.
The Floresville Chamber of Commerce held its regular monthly meeting on a Tuesday evening with a smaller turnout due to various causes. An appetizing luncheon was served at 8 o'clock at the White House Cafe, and about twenty business men attended a profitable gathering. Ray Leeman, general manager, and R. H. Smith, vice executive of the new South Texas Chamber of Commerce, delivered two strong addresses outlining cooperative efforts and future plans.
