A State Department Education representative speaks at the courthouse at 2 PM. County trustees and superintendents, plus friends of education, are invited. Wilson and Karnes county boards convene this morning at 10 o'clock for related discussions.
Superintendent Swift invites Wilson and Karnes counties trustees and the public to a 10 o’clock morning board session at J E Swift’s office with a State Department representative to discuss Rural Aid Law provisions. A 2 PM general meeting in the district courtroom will feature a State Department speaker and address school problems for trustees and interested residents.
A benefit barbecue supper will be held Sunday September 10 at the Hermann Sens Hall in Poth. The Poth Lutheran Church invites the public to attend. Mayor S V Houston and W H Houston visited Pleasanton last Friday on business with Miss Evelyn Spruce, who spent time with friends.

SAN ANGELO Texas Aug 9 Stockmen say green cotton stalks resemble alfalfa hay for feed but cattle avoid the foliage. Once dried the stalks are ground with oats maize and other feedstuffs and eaten readily. Some farmers use a tractor to plow stalks then rake them into piles for curing.
Washington August 8 government crop reports show 12,314,000 bales forecast for the year despite 10,304,000 acres plowed under. August 1 condition at 74 percent of normal, highest since 1915 except 74.9 in 1931, with 29,704,000 acres expected to be harvested and output per acre about 198 pounds.
The Floresville community notes with pride that Dr William Rhode has been named an assistant on the medical staff at the San Antonio State Hospital. He earned his MD from the University of Texas Medical School at Galveston last June after a distinguished college career and is welcomed by friends and family in Floresville.
Nixon remains undefeated after beating the Panna Maria baseball club 7 to 1 on their home diamond Sunday afternoon. Poth and Nixon are both undefeated and will meet next Sunday at Nixon.
Destruction of cotton in Wilson County proceeds rapidly. Contracts were accepted and notices mailed July 31 to signers. Local committeemen may instruct farmers on destruction methods and will inspect fields to verify completion. The administration emphasizes farmer ownership of the program and urges reporting irregularities to the officer or local committee chair.
St Ann's annual barbecue and picnic at Kosciusko on Sunday August 13 features Congressman Kleberg as principal speaker at 2 p.m. He will discuss President Roosevelt's program. The event includes baseball, other entertainment, music by the Shiner band, and a large turnout anticipated from Wilson, Hanks and nearby counties.
Daily Vacation Church School at Floresville Methodist Church draws about forty youths each morning this week. Rev. A. A. Carter leads with trained helpers in stories songs and Bible lessons about Jesus life. Evelyn Merchant heads about twenty five primary pupils in art and Bible work while Mrs. A. A. Carter guides juniors in sewing and manual training. Mrs. E F Woolsey Jr oversees songs and Marion Fore directs the outdoor play in a varied program that aims to provide helpful instruction for community youth.
E. F. Woolsey Jr president of the Floresville Chamber of Commerce announced yesterday the appointment of a five man NRA committee. The panel includes C. R. Eschenburg J. C. Merchant Alex Lieberman W. J. Ellinghausen and John W. Reese with Woolsey added as chairman. The group will liaise with local firms on NRA matters hear complaints and disseminate information.
