The Wilson Karnes County battery is now in federal service. On Sunday morning the unit, comprising 153 men and 5 officers, began daily drill here and will move to temporary quarters in San Antonio as it prepares camp facilities.
A dispatch notes a group heading toward Fort Worth around September 1 and lists members of Battery D, 2nd Field Artillery, Texas National Guard, with numerous ranks and hometowns including Floresville, Karnes City, Stockdale, San Antonio, and other nearby locales. The roster features officers First Lieutenants Arthur C Eschenburg and others, plus enlisted men from various towns, reflecting a broad unit muster output.
A long list of names from Karnes, Floresville, Panna Maria, Pandora, Stockdale, Kosciusko, Leming, Karnes City, Floresville and Poth is presented. The note urges immediate attention to settle matters on the sender's books as the author expects to be busy with other duties in the coming days.
The Chronicle Journal notes that Rev D B South of Corpus Christi will preach at Floresville Baptist Church next Sunday morning and evening. A cordial invitation is extended to all to attend and hear him. T O Kerr was in Edna for several days last week.
