Blessed Sacrament Church in Poth Texas hosts an all day picnic at Hermann Sons Hall with lunch, to go plates, sausage eating contest, games, rides, a country store, an auction at 4 PM, cafeteria supper, and dancing from 8:30 PM to Abbey of South Texas. Over 6000 people expected.
Charles R Frieda served as Electronics Installation Team Member and Air National Guard Monitor at Kelly AFB Texas from 15 June 1973 to 29 August 1978. His meritorious service improved field communications installations and testing procedures. He is stationed in the Philippines with wife Margie and daughter Tara living in San Antonio. He is the son of Emil and Mrs Frieda of Floresville.
Floresville High School opens registration in the study hall on Friday August 24 Seniors and Juniors 9 00 am to 12 00 pm and 1 00 pm to 3 00 pm Freshmen and Sophomores 9 00 am to 12 00 pm and 1 00 pm to 3 00 pm Seniors need 30 quarter credits or 10 full credits for promotion Juniors 37 quarter credits for promotion Call the office at 393 3157 with questions about registration and promotion rules.
The Floresville Memorial Hospital Auxiliaries sponsor a benefit dance Friday night August 10 at Kosciusko Community Hall to raise funds for a new 3 channel EKG machine. The Crossovers perform free, Kosciusko Hall donates space, and proceeds plus donations fund the equipment. Tickets are sold at the hospital for any attendee, with support welcome. Freshmen: under 12 quarter credits or 4 full credits. Sophomores: 12 quarter credits or 4 full credits.
The Wilson County Republican Women's Club will not meet in August. The next meeting is scheduled for September 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Floresville City National Bank meeting room. Plan to attend this September gathering.

Frank Stanley, manager, announces growth at Super S Foods Floresville with new produce cases installed July 25 and 24 extra feet of produce space after remodeling. The lot was resurfaced in March and repaved with new parking slots on August 4. Ample front parking and a refreshed, well stocked produce area invite customers.
The text urges readers to join the County Volunteer Ambulance Association as membership is very low. It notes not enough volunteers to man ambulances, laments shortages, and asks current and former users to consider joining to support emergency services.
State Comptroller Representative Pete Pierce will attend the Wilson County Courthouse on Wednesday August 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon for Taxpayers Service. Pierce will answer questions about State taxes and related issues for taxpayers.
Kosciusko Red Socks won game one of the best of three Bluebonnet Playoffs as Martin Pruski hit a seventh inning grand slam to come from behind and secure the victory. Emil Moczygemba provided key relief in the final two innings amid strong fan turnout.
Lisa Lynnn Plech, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Plech, chosen by the Peanut Festival Association to represent Floresville in The Court of Our Agricultural Frontier. Chuck Sawers, Floresville High senior, saxophonist and athlete, is her escort and fellow court participant.
Sandra Aelvoet Floresville Wilson County Extension agent attended the 36th Annual Meeting of the Texas Association of Extension Home Economists from August 1 to 3 in Temple. Themed Dimensions in Creativity, the conference focused on professional improvement and inflation fighting strategies for Texas consumers and educational programs across the state's 254 counties.
Girls interested in volleyball at FHS should report to the high school gym on August 23 for tryouts. Registration and warm up run 8:30 to 9:00. Bring a completed file including a ULL and a physician signed by the doctor and parent or guardian.
The City of Floresville starts a rabies control program requiring all dogs to be penned or on a leash. If a dog is picked up, reclaim fees rise each day from ten to fourteen dollars, with possible vaccination charges. Unclaimed dogs are put down after three days.
