Preparations for the 1964 ASC committee election outline mail ballots for eligible farmers and ranchers. The nominating committee will create a slate by August 1963 with petitions by August 15. Ballots mailed September 1 and due September 10. County convention September 20 and offices begin October 1. Includes community designations and voting rules.
The City Council at its regular meeting Thursday night August 1 passed a Special Ordinance establishing no parking and limited parking zones with penalties for violations. The ordinance takes effect after August 10 and full text is on Page 10 of today's Chronicle Journal.
H B Jackson Wilson County librarian says summer demand at the library averages 100 books per day with readers from across the county. State Reading Certificates will be issued to about 10 students. The program is sponsored by the Texas State Library and Wilson County Library. Citizens are urged to support a dedicated reading room for research and study.
Wilson County 4H members plan a Saturday August 17 outing at Starcke Park Seguin with new Chairman Elise Kitchoff. They will depart the courthouse at 8 a.m. and return about 5 30 p.m. Members bring lunch and refreshments provided by County Council. The schedule features organized recreation, folk games, and eating.
C M Carter was elected to the position in Floresville and sworn in Tuesday, succeeding the late H C Blaughter of Stockdale. He began duties after Blaughter died in hospital on July 95 following a brief illness. Carter is described as well known and respected locally.
SARA proceeds with Cibolo Reservoir in Wilson County at the earliest date. A 45 person meeting in Stockdale endorsed the project with 90 percent landowners present. The dam between Stockdale and Floresville would hold 200000 acre feet for flood control and 200000 for water supply, with annual withdrawable water of 240 acre feet and a total project cost of 22 million dollars, 10 million federal flood control funds and 12 million funded by Wilson County and water sales.
St Hedwig Fire Department stages a Sunday picnic on August 18 with barbecue beef and country sausage. Dinner is served 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and supper 4:00 to 8:40 pm. Adults pay 1.00, children under 12 pay 60 cents. Games refreshments and a big dance by the Riedel Brothers. Net proceeds support the fire department.
Mr and Mrs Roy Swift and their daughter Roy Ann of Baltimore visited the Chronicle office on Wednesday morning after traveling from San Marcos to see his mother and son Lee Swift and new bride. They recently returned from a two week vacation in Old Mexico and he serves on the National Social Security Board in Baltimore.
The Manford Grain and Elevator Company in Sunley Texas has been reinstated to the program. After a suspension dated July 1 1962 the facility is again on the list of approved warehouses and eligible for Price Support loans. An investigation found the warehouse now complies with the Uniform Grain Storage Agreement governing government grain storage.
Stockdale City Council votes in favor of the San Antonio River Authority plan for a $22 million Cibolo Reservoir in Wilson County. A four member committee was named to cooperate with the Authority, as the dam on Cibolo Creek near Stockdale would impound 200000 acre feet for flood control and water supply. The project will receive $10 million from the federal government and $12 million from SARA and Wilson County.
Floresville Lions Club weekly luncheon heard a favorable Little League report. Thirty members plus one visitor from San Antonio heard Lions Cox and Veltschil describe the program. A special game Friday night August 16 featured Floresville All State facing a Corpus Christi Police Department team, sponsored by Wynne Seale Wright, with hopes for a large crowd.
Emil Lohee and Jerome Plieller traveled to Austin last Friday on business. They visited the state capitol and met with Fausto Toncano and Al bina Bercaita from Ton.
State Senator Walter Richter is appointed by Governor John Connally as a delegate to the Southern Regional Educational Board twelfth annual Legislative Work Conference in Oklahoma City. The event runs August 8 to 10 with speakers including Governors Sanford, Vellion, and Clement.
Next Sunday at the Hermann Sone Malkin the Poth community hosts its annual barbecue event expected to attract an extra large crowd. Dinner begins at 11 40 AM and supper at 4 PM. kitchen closes at 9 PM. Adults 1 25, children 75 cents. Music by The Tall Texana.
The county commissioners court on August 6 authorized a special order amid reports on oil activity near Floresville. Details include a 420 foot wildcat by Moore at Floresville area and notes on prior drilling, reentries, and projected start times, along with a fiscal statement addressing county clerk funds and a requested audit. The vote and procedural actions followed a shortfall disclosure and a call for restitution and financial review.
Wilson County Commissioners Court names Mary Alice Manik of Rollville Texas as the new County Home Demonstration Agent. She will work with Agricultural Agent and extension service staff in Wilson County to promote the program in cooperation with local offices in Tellville and other Texas counties.
Greg Hill and Fin Meyer to be honored at the Texas Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association annual meeting in Dallas. Recipients include tenure awards for Meyers, Keath, Trant, Hill of Raab Central High School, and Elmo Meyer. awards for work with newspapers and public relations.
Coach Jack Taylor heads Flores Ville Tigers football for 1967 with first practice set Monday morning August 19 at 10 00 at a field. Evening practice follows 5 00 to 6 00 daily until end of preseason. Physicals Friday August 16 at 2 00 at Viger Field House. Varsity and two junior teams expected to report. Open practice details include fence around field and team enthusiasm among fans and community.
Florenville High School announces the new 1063 year book Tiger Claw arriving for August 15 presentation at Highway Park on the San River. A Scribble Party will be held with cold drinks for attendees. Do not miss taft.
