Veterans Build Skills In Poth Farm Program
The Wilson County group at Floresville and Poth offers a well rounded GI veterans class. It features 6 hours of classroom work and 4 hours of field studies weekly with on farm visits by the instructor. Field trips include Luling Foundation Farm Rio Vista Farms Beeville Experiment Station and more. Participants manage 1953 acres 1182 pasture lands 87 dairy cattle 117 hogs 86 horses 2625 poultry and raise corn cotton watermelon and other crops while keeping accurate records. The class lists 22 veterans led by Walter Billimek Roy Cook and others.

Merritte Shaw Dies In Auto Crash Near San Antonio
Merritte Carroll Shaw 26 son of Mr and Mrs Frank Shaw of Stockdale died Tuesday night July 29 when his car collided with a second vehicle five miles south of San Antonio on Highway 87 near W. W. White road. He was alone and died after being taken to Robert B Green Hospital. The other car occupants were injured. Shaw, born in Stockdale, lived there all his life and served three years in World War II with the 15th Air Corps. The funeral was held at Stockdale Cemetery Thursday at 5 p.m.
