Wilson County fair plans target Floresville October event

Directors of the Wilson County Fair Association met at the courthouse to map the 10th annual fair in Floresville from October 15 to 18. Premiums total 2000 dollars with exhibits across agricultural, livestock, poultry, school and women’s departments. County-wide cooperation is urged as the community anticipates entertainment, pageants, and football contests each afternoon. Democratic County Convention held Saturday at the courthouse elected DeWitt Murray chair and A L Orts secretary with a large list of convention delegates named.

Beck attended later due to a fair directors' meeting and joined the round table discussion after Mr. Wilkinson of Kleberg County spoke on poultry raising from hatching eggs to laying hens and disease treatment.

Young man hired to pick cotton in Floresville

A local farmer near Fort Worth recruited a cowboy on Floresville streets to help pick cotton. He claimed to pick about 500 pounds daily but on the most recent Saturday managed only six pounds, prompting the farmer Mr Zahn to praise his potential if he proves as capable as a ranch hand.

Aged Watchman Fatally Wounds Self at Cotton Oil Co

Jesus Trevino, 65, long time night watchman at Floresville Cotton Oil Co, accidentally discharged a .45 pistol while preparing for night duty. The weapon slipped from a cabinet drawer, struck a safe, and shattered his breast bone. He was taken to Oxford and Archer Hospital and was reported improving.

American Legion Barbecue At Floresville Fair Grounds

Floresville Post 38 American Legion held its regular meeting last Tuesday night at the Fair Grounds. Before the meeting a barbecue was served to over 100 Legionnaires and families, with members of the Ladies Auxiliary invited. Several sheep were barbecued along with other abundant foods.
