Sacred Heart School Registration Announces Dates

Sacred Heart School invites new and returning students to register on August 16 and 17. Registration runs August 16 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and August 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Kindergarten entrants must be five by September 1, and first graders six by that date. Bring Baptismal certificate and smallpox vaccination verification.

Water Tower Lights Shine Over Floresville Night Sky

The Floresville city water tower near the Professional Building glows with three 1000 watt flood lights each night. Installed last week, the multi-vapor fixtures draw mixed but largely favorable reaction. The tower stands as a beacon of progress, lighting the surrounding area and drawing planes circling above. Holland P. Smith of Gonzales Texas will speak at the First Baptist Church revival in Sutherland Springs August 10 to 17, with Kenneth Wellman as pastor and Buddy Coston at the piano. Smith, a Stockdale native, invites public attendance.

Fire Destroys Building and Contents on F Street

Last week Thursday fire crews battled a blaze on F Street that destroyed the former Talley Feed and Supply building along with baled hay a butane tank and shelving. The site next to the railroad tracks was a total loss and the fire origin remains under investigation. In Wilson County Stockdale road bond election failed by about 20 votes, 224 for and 142 against, missing a two thirds majority.

Tennis Clinic to Be Held Here August 8th

A free tennis clinic conducts by Trinity University coach John Newerman will be held Friday afternoon August 8 at 3 p.m. on the tennis courts. Open to children and adults and welcomes participants from Floresville and neighboring towns seeking to learn and improve.

Local businessman breaks wrist in horse riding accident

Hudell Wright sustained a severe break to his left wrist when a saddle strap broke as he rode at his ranch near town. Thrown to the ground, he was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in San Antonio, placed in a cast, and stayed overnight before returning home.
