Laredo official earns 30 year service pin and certificate
The visor of the Animal Disease Eradication Division of the U S Department of Agriculture at Laredo received a 30 year pin Friday. Swift heads the last continuous mounted patrols along the border from Devil's River into the Gulf of Mexico to keep fever tick out of the United States. Dr John L Wilbur, Texas veterinarian in charge, praised his service and noted past recognitions. The fever tick had cost livestock millions. since 1940 the southern U S and Texas have been fever tick free down to a buffer zone along the Rio Grande.

Thirteen From This Area On Two Week Tour Of Duty
Nearly 1 600 civilians from more than 80 Southwest Texas cities will swap to Air Force uniforms as members of the 43d Troop Carrier Wing at Kelly AFB begin two weeks of active duty. About 780 will join July 31 for duty with the Wing's 21st Troop Carrier Group, followed two weeks later by roughly the same number from the 922d TC Gp heading home. Local reservists listed include Floresville and Poth area airmen, with ground crews undergoing intensive on the job training while the Wing maintains combat readiness as one of the nation’s top Air Force Reserve units. This marks the Alamo Wing’s Md annual two week tour with training sessions and regular weekend drills.

The Floresville Paint Horse Show, first of its kind locally, is scheduled for Saturday August 7 at Pophams Arena. Approved by the American Paint Horse Association and state groups, events include four halter mares, four stallions, two geldings, plus performance classes such as Western Pleasure, Reining, Barrel Racing, Roping and Cutting. Pacheco Celebrates 90th Birthday in San Antonio
Mr. S. S. Pacheco of Floresville marked his 90th birthday on July 28 1965 at Pollard Memorial Methodist Church in San Antonio. A service led by District Superintendent Rev Josue Gonzalez followed by refreshments. Attendees from San Antonio and Floresville included numerous Pacheco relatives and friends. he is a longtime Floresville barber and founder of El Mesias Methodist Church.
