Pfc John Thadlee and his nine month old son Daniel were killed when their car skidded and overturned one mile north of Leon Springs while his wife Shirley Taylor Thadlee was injured. Postoffice Lease Set for Floresville Building
Floresville will gain a new postoffice building after the U.S. Post Office Department awarded a 10 year lease to Mrs. Laura Cooley of Fort Worth. The brick structure, 34 by 74 feet, will be erected on property owned by Charles A. McDaniel between Second and Third Streets, and is to be completed by December 1, 1966 with air conditioning and modern lighting.

A joint meeting of the Boards of Trustees from Poth La Vernia Floresville and Stockdale approved desegregation of all county schools by September 1 1955. The board closed the only Negro school in Wilson County and Negro students will attend within their districts. About 9 Negro students were enrolled countywide last year and 54 reside in Floresville district affected by the ruling set to take effect September 1.

Livestock Loan Program Extended Through July 1 1957
The USDA extends the special Livestock Loan Program for two years through July 1 1957 under Public Law 166 signed by President Eisenhower. Since inception 6,382 loans totaling over 54 million dollars were made, including 1,744 loans totaling more than 18 million dollars to Texas stock producers. Initial loans run through July 14 1957 with potential advances for two years to eligible borrowers. Loans aid established producers to buy feed or replace farm machinery and may be used to stock or adjust herds.
