In South Texas, local melon shipments exceed 400 cars as demand rises. The report notes consistent orders from Amag Bosti and sustained activity at Sut id and nearby counties.
The county agent E D Beck moves into a new bungalow at the Wilson County Fair Grounds. The home serves as a demonstration center for the county farm program with an orchard by the Floresville Chamber of Commerce. The project, backed by the Fair Association, aims to showcase pruning and cultivation methods and diversify Wilson county agriculture.
Voters in Wilson County turned out strongly on Monday August 1 voting against all four proposed constitutional amendments. Official returns will be canvassed by the commissioners' court next week and published in Friday's issue. Floresville box precincts reported decisive opposition statewide, while Sutherland Springs prepares for a large regional celebration hosted by the Floresville and Stockdale Chambers of Commerce and local businesses.
After years of research International Harvester introduces a machine that opens stalks and removes cotton without harming leaves, bolls, or blossoms. Two units were sold to Kenedy farmers G W Holcombe and T C Gideon and two to Nueces County, with more expected as demonstrations begin. One machine reportedly picks ten to twelve acres daily.
The Floresville Chamber of Commerce will hold its regular monthly meeting on August 9 at 8 p m. A banquet at the White House Cafe will precede the business session at the courthouse. R H Bob Smith of the South Texas Chamber will speak on benefits of joining. Attendance urged for a full, important agenda with a dedication room soon opening.
The Flor esville Chamber of Commerce board of directors meets this afternoon at 4 15 PM in the County Agent office at the courthouse. All members are urged to be present and on time.
Sutherland Springs en tertains S P employees tomorrow with two special trains. A band of 60 players will perform. Several thousand attendees expected. A big basket dinner is planned at noon with amusement throughout the day.
The Floresville Baptist Church concluded a two week revival led by Pastor Rev. A B Weathersby with Prof. E A Cornett assisting. Seven new members joined the church as revival spirit filled services. The congregation granted the pastor a month's leave of absence and he will travel to Mississippi with his family to visit relatives.
The Floresville Cotton Warehouse Association reported 1170 bales processed by yesterday afternoon. Floresville gins produced 731 bales, Eschenburg-Schneider in Dewees 420 bales, and Loma Vista gin near Floresville 385 bales. Miss Margaret Franklin of Jourdan ton visited with Mrs. Grady Swift.
Notice from the Friday, Sept. 2, 1927 school board invites bids from banking institutions to act as depository for district funds for the ensuing year. The board reserves the right to reject any or all bids. Dr. E Sparks, president. The article also notes Texas borders along Mexico and the native white American population.
The Chronicle-Journal reports two gin orders delivered this week to local gins. A recent order for 6,000 weight receipts arrived in duplicate from the Floresville Cotton, with a warehouse noting they can handle all gin and mill work on short notice.
Water rents for Floresville must be paid by the tenth of each month or water service will be discontinued. M Tipton, collector, available at city hall from the first to the tenth. A $2 reconnection charge applies after disconnection for nonpayment.
The Floresville Cemetery Association will meet at the home of Mrs. L B Wise-man on Tuesday August 12 at 4 00 p m. All members are urged to attend.
