Grand Opening At Plaza Ford Mercury Draws Crowd

Hundreds attend the Plaza Ford-Mercury grand opening on Saturday July 30 with visitors from the area viewing new Fords and Mercurys and entering a five prize registration. Prizes included a free car use for a Tempo and cash awards to Floresville residents, plus gallons of fuel and other gifts. Floresville Middle School Band begins football season rehearsals August 8 at 9 am for seventh and eighth graders.

Grand Opening At Floresville Draws Big Crowd

August 7 1983 marked a two day event in Floresville with Ken Barber General Manager noting 1000 attendees at the start and over 2200 registering for free prizes. Co-owners John Connally Mark Connally Kenneth Brown and Ted Der welcomed guests from 10 30 a m to noon before two left for prior commitments.

Floresville Lions Club Announces Thursday Meeting

Floresville Lions Club will start its regular meetings this Thursday August 4 at noon at Wrights Cafe. Members will discuss club activities and refreshments, with KBUC radio broadcasting live via telephone. Janice Dziuk Shines With 4th In National Meet

Janice Dziuk of Path placed fourth nationwide in shot put at the National Jr Olympians Track and Field Championships held at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend Indiana. She competed against 22 athletes in her age group, recording a personal best of 38 4 inches. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Dziuk of Poth.

Registration schedule for 1983 student intake announced

Registration for former students runs August 15 to 18 from 8 30 to 4 daily with pre registered course selections honored and parent statements required for changes. New students register August 19 from 9 to 3. Schedule assigns letters A through Z by day and time blocks with seniors to freshmen and new students.

Volleyball Tryouts Open for 1983 Team

Open tryouts for the 1983 volleyball team start Monday August 8 at 8 30 a m in the high school gym. All participants must have a physical first, with exams offered Wednesday August 3 at 9 30 a m for $10. For details contact Coach Mills at 393 3157.

Changes in Food Stamp Program Begin August First 1983

South Texas Food Stamp participants will receive monthly Status Reports beginning July end and must report changes or risk losing benefits. TDHR requires monthly reporting for households with two or more adults and at least one employable adult or those with one adult and three or more children. Reports must be returned with proof of change within ten days.

Peanut Festival Princess Kim Bienek to Lead Court of Majestic Melodies

Kimberly Ann Bienek, of Floresville, serves as Peanut Festival Princess for The Court of Majestic Melodies. A Floresville Independent School District senior, she holds NHS secretary, class president, and Who’s Who honors, and is a state UIL flute twirler. She plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin after graduation.

Todd David Kennedy serves as Prince to Kimberly Ann Bienek in The Melodies during Floresville 1983 Peanut Festival activities. He is the son of Pat Kennedy and grandchild of Earl Smith and J.D. Johnson, a Floresville senior involved in football, track, Student Council, and Computer Club, planning to attend UTSA. He works as lifeguard and swim instructor at the City Pool.
