Raabe Harvests Ist Peanuts At Kasper
W. Raabe, a well known Kasper farmer, harvested the first peanuts of the 1944 crop on Thursday July 2. He threshed 682 bushels and stored 14 tons of bright hay. Planting began March 8. The yield was slightly above per acre on light mesquite loam. Few peanuts were planted in the area but Raabe aimed to aid the war program. He had previously harvested the county’s first peanuts last year for neighbors.

The Floresville Church of Christ revival, begun July 30, will close Sunday night August 6. Preacher Thomas G. Fowler from Denver Heights San Antonio has delivered strong sermons. Roy Stacey of Palm Heights San Antonio directs song services. Attendance has been strong with visitors from Stockdale and San Antonio. Services continue tonight, Saturday, and Sunday at 8 30 with Sunday morning at 11 00. A youth song service at 8 00 nightly. The Wilson County Democratic convention met last Saturday with 75 attendees from most precincts. Officials chosen include Elmo Wright as temporary chairman and A W Denmark as temporary vice chairman, with R A Wiseman and others named to committees and as temporary secretaries and sergeants at arms. The credentials committee reported precinct conventions in 17 precincts and the delegates list. The motion to make temporary officers permanent passed unanimously and a delegation to the Texas State Convention in Dallas on September 12 was named to vote as a unit.
