Heavy county turnout lands a record vote total surpassing 4,200 in the Wilson County primary. All old county officials are re elected except two. New commissioners are elected in all precincts. McDonald Alfred and Hunter lead for governor with a county run off for county judge.
Wilson county turned out nearly 4,300 voters on Saturday July 28 in one of the hottest campaigns in memory. Incumbents mostly held, with runoffs in county judge and Precinct 2, plus tight races for sheriff treasurer tax assessor and clerk among others. United States Senator Tom Connally sought re election in a broader statewide tally.
Woodul faces Moore and Woodward to battle McCraw. Lon Smith competes against Pundt as over a million votes are reported cast in the statewide contests.
Dallas July 31 The final unofficial returns from last Saturday's Democratic primary place Attorney General James V Allred ahead of Tom F Hunter by 50116 votes for first in the governor race with 901354 votes counted from 252 counties. McCraw Woodward and other names linger close as rail commissioner race tallies place Lon A Smith ahead.

The Chronicle-Journal reports District Judge S. B. Carr of Floresville won re election over R. R. Smith of Jourdanton by 820 votes. Wilson LaSalle and Atascosa counties show mixed results with Carr ahead in two counties and Smith leading in Atascosa, awaiting official totals next week. Local merchants urged patronage.
Governor Miriam A. Ferguson announced a special Texas legislative session to convene August 27 to authorize additional unemployment relief bonds. A committee of mayors and county judges urged urgent action, saying the situation was one of real acute alarm. Exemption certificate applications for Wilson County cotton must be submitted by Saturday August 11 to allow the State Allotment Board to finalize county allocations. County agents urge farmers to see their committeemen promptly and inform neighbors to ensure cooperation and proper service. She played a major role in student activities serving as house chairman of Burthall a student government office and belonged to Royal Academia a senior society on campus.
In Corpus Christi a chamber request led to a meeting on July 30 to plan storm relief. R A Houck and R A Wiseman formed a committee representing Wilson county farmers. About 22 counties were represented at Plaza Hotel sessions, with damage reports from agriculture and livestock sectors. Reports will be used to support a resolution to Secretary Wallace. Congressman Kleberg chaired. Mansfield and Thompson supported. West and Buchanan sent telegrams.
Pearsall Texas on August 1 reports 538 cattle checks totaling 232269 dollars received for storm relief. Local figures show multiple producers contributing to aid efforts as residents assess damages and recovery needs.
Austin Aug 1 Adam R Johnson Texas relief administrator announced Texas had been granted 1 4 million for drought relief this month by Aubrey Williams acting Federal administrator Johnson said the grant plus 1 million previously given for August brings total released to 2 4 million with 991 253 received from the Federal Government for June matches He estimated Texas now has 3 4 million available for August excluding cannery grants and said relief checks for counties for half August would be mailed by tomorrow afternoon urging budgeting of funds.
