Butler Wins 58th District Representative Race in Three Counties

Jerry Butler of Floresville defeated L. L. Holstein for State Representative District 58. Butler carried Wilson Karnes and Bee counties with a total 66?55 vote, turnout details show Butler lead in all three counties. Holstein, a six term veteran, previously represented the district. Butler’s background includes ranching and farming with his father and his wife Jeanette Smith of Floresville.

Precinct 26 Passes Four Democratic Resolutions in Floresville

In Floresville Precinct No 26 a 19 member Democratic precinct convention met at City Hall last Saturday July 26 1958 at 2 00 PM. M Montes was elected permanent chairman and Sam Fore Jr was named permanent chair unanimously. Elizabeth Wiseman was elected permanent secretary. Four resolutions were adopted unanimously urging delegates to support the organization of the Democratic State Convention in San Antonio on September 9 1958 and to honor the nominations of State Democratic Executive Committee members by the Senatorial District Caucuses. The group criticized nonmember infiltration of primaries and conventions.

Yarborough Wins DA Seat Across Wilson County Precincts

Yarborough defeats Blakley with 219 531 votes while Daniel gains a clear majority in every Wilson County precinct. District attorney race spans five counties for the 81st Judicial District, counts total 2065.

Vote Count Nearly Done in Texas Democratic Primary

Final returns from the Texas Election Bureau show 254 counties reporting with 204 complete and about 11,000 votes still unreported. Leading results include Yarborough 742,082 over Blakley 522,551 for U S Senate and Daniel 786,807 for Governor over Gonzalez 241,994. Other races list Ramsey 734,679 over Nokes 409,831 for Lt Governor and Albcorn 691,791 over Dimmitt 391,247 for Land Commissioner. U S House results show Beckworth 35,551 over Hudson 23,426 in District 3 and Sanders 46,422 over Pool 365 in District 5.

No Run-Off In Wilson Co Ex Com Votes On August 23

The Democratic Executive Committee decided there will be no run-off primary in Wilson County on Saturday August 23. There are no district or county run-offs, as the panel deemed the cost prohibitive for a single State Supreme Court run-off race. The body also approved a plan to convene precinct chairmen with the Commissioners Court on August 11 to discuss reducing voting boxes from 25 to fewer, given precints with under 50 votes.

Precinct 1 Names 15 Delegates To County Convention

Wilson county records show Yarborough leading in all 26 precincts with 2385 votes to Blakley’s 1066, a countywide majority of 1319. Precinct 1 met at the courthouse July 26 1958 electing 15 delegates to the county Democratic Convention, to meet August 2 at 2 PM. Delegates were instructed to vote as a unit and proceedings were filed with the county clerk.
