Wilson County Votes Set Record Low in Primary Plebiscite

Wilson County held its lightest primary vote in history with about 2000 ballots cast. Incumbent W A Voges led in Precinct 2 with 816 to 72 for Charlie Meyer, while the entire county slate secured returns without opposition. Baker won the 79th district seat over Radford. Karnes county backed Baker, and Bobbitt led Attorney General race. The Democratic Executive Committee will canvass results and plan the August 23 runoff.

Ferguson leads in Texas runoff as counties report

Nationwide returns show Mrs. Miriam A. Ferguson leading Ross Sterling by 64 330 votes with 252 of 253 counties counted and 151 counts completed. Total votes reach 760 693 as Ferguson maintains chief lead. several runoff races loom, including for railroad commissioner.

Democratic County Convention Set For Floresville Tomorrow

Wilson county Democrats will meet at the Floresville courthouse Saturday at 2 PM to elect delegates to the state convention in Galveston next month. Precincts held meetings last Saturday to select delegates, and organizers hope for a large attendance.

Scouts Off To Camp Comal For Annual Trip

Floresville troop members join 12 scouts headed by Stanley Coughran for a 10 day outing at Camp Comal near New Braunfels. Sponsored by Alamo Council San Antonio with several Poth scouts, prominent instructors oversee daily program and scouting activities. Some parents plan to visit next Sunday. Floresvilleites Weigh In On Democratic Primary Contests

Former Floresville citizens contested last Saturday in Texas primary races. M H West of Brownsville won a seat in the lower Texas House. James A King of Austin faces A D McGregor in a runoff for Austin District Representative. K H Lewis of Linton advances to a runoff with A D Atkin for San Patricio County tax collector. The three-candidate race was tight.

Big Decrease In Fire Losses in Texas Cities

In the first half of 1930 Texas cities reported fire losses of 5 786 601, down from 6 782 752 a year earlier, a drop of 996 061. State fire insurance commissioner J W DeWeese attributed the decline to a campaign against fires.

Poultrymen to Meet in Floresville Next Monday Night

An urgent invitation goes to all Wilson County poultry men to attend a meeting Monday night at 8:30 in the Floresville Chamber of Commerce office. County Agent E De Beck will speak on poultry industry matters after returning from California and attending a short course at College Station. He will share insights from large poultry farm visits and the course topics.

Mrs J M Dawson At Baptist Church Given Good Hearing

Mrs J M Dawson of Waco addressed a Baptist church gathering to advocate for Baylor University. She highlighted the new dormitory nearing completion to house about 250 students and urged support. The audience responded with strong interest and the Women’s Society donating one hundred dollars toward the dormitory’s completion.

Seguin Highway Work Near Completion This Week

Seguin highway work on the gravel base from San Marcos to Seguin No 23 will finish this week with tarvia or asphalt topping once settled. The Seguin end is already done and tarvia has been spread on a short section. The road will become a premier Texas highway connecting San Marcos to a prime farming area, reducing the distance to Seguin to about 20 miles.

American Legion To Give Barbecue Next Tuesday Night

Floresville American Legion Post No. 88 will hold its regular monthly meeting at the Fair Grounds. A free barbecue will be served at 8 p.m. All members and their families are invited to attend as several important matters will be discussed and Post No. 38 members are urged to be present.

Highway Route 125 Plan Approved Seguin To Stockdale

Federal and state engineers approved Highway No.127 route between Seguin and Stockdale in Wilson County. Right of way secured from Guadalupe County line to Stockdale, with local efforts to fund grading and surfacing. two routes in Guadalupe County eyed for least expenditure. Stockdale leads melon shipments, setting county record with 119 percent gain and over 795 cars, as total county melons near 1,000,000 for the year.

State Board fixes tax rate at 69c for Texas region

The State Tax Board announced a total tax rate of 69 cents per $100 for the coming fiscal year starting September 1, 1930. The rate is set slightly above the previous assessment, with estimated revenue from the new levy around $10.88.
