Wilson County Primary Election Results Reported

Chronicle Journal notes belated Saturday returns from Wilson County primary with about 2,500 voters casting ballots and poll tax figures over 4,100 recorded. The story promises full tabulation though publication is delayed.

Two Fires Yesterday In Floresville Cottage Loss insured

Fire destroyed the cottage owned by F. H. May in Northeast Floresville near W. F. Donaho’s home. Doc Prince and family occupied the place. origin suspected as an oil stove. Mrs. Prince was at home. belongings burned. Insurance listed at $800. A second alarm was sounded later that afternoon for a Johnson home barn fire but caused only minor damage.

Poth Gins First 1924 Bale for Wilson County

Poth leads Wilson County with its first 1924 cotton bale ginned by Bednarz and Billimek, weighed 471 pounds. Floresville also sees three bales in one day with Martin Ramirez’s 500 pound bale selling for 31 cents and a premium to buyer B. L. Eschenburg. The Houston and Sichnovsky Gin Co. and Floresville Farmers Gin Co. processed the bales as the crop opens and gins hum. Cotton faces a dry spell with weevil concerns and hopes for rain.

Baptist Ladies Work Meeting At Church Aug 4 Program

Baptist ladies held a 4 pm meeting at the church with good attendance. The Bible Study was led from John twenty one. Next gathering Monday August 4 includes Mrs M Cox and all ladies welcome. Program topics cover The Negro in Africa and in the United States and The Planned Life with talks by several members. There is a note about printers ink by a Clarendon News item.

Floresville Civic Club organized in afternoon meeting

Ladies in Floresville are invited to a 5 o'clock meeting at Mrs. W C Murray Sr to organize a civic club for the town. The aim is to create a group that mirrors progressive towns and gains broad citizen support. The note mentions past art group activity and upcoming hostess Mrs Horace Ridout.

Mah Jongg Club Hostess Delights Members and Guests

Miss Lorrie Davis hosted the Mah Jongg Club last Thursday at her home. Ida Mae Murray led with the high score among members, Nell Irvin had the low score, and guest Lillian Spruce also earned a high score. After a business meeting, guests enjoyed salad sandwiches fruit punch Angel Food Cake and mint filled yellow baskets.
