Peanut Festival Association elects new queen

Donna Cordes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. CO.E. Cordes, is elected queen for the Peanut Festival on October 9 and 10 by the festival directors. Elaine Lackness is first runner up, with Tera Reynolds and Katherine Robinson as other court members. The crowning will occur Friday, October 9 in Wiley Seale Auditorium.

Planned Disaster Drill by Wilson County EMS and Floresville Memorial Hospital

Wilson County EMS and Floresville Memorial Hospital will conduct a planned disaster drill on May 3 Sunday afternoon to meet Joint Commission standards. A walk through learning exercise helps prepare for actual disasters. To avoid injuries bystanders should refrain from attending unless involved. Corky Nelson to Speak at All-Sports Banquet

Clark Corky Nelson, Baylor defensive coach and former Tyler head coach, will be guest speaker at the All-Sports Banquet this Saturday, May 2. The event honors top defensive and offensive players, with the Athletic Booster Club presenting a plaque for outstanding year players.

Preliminary Injunction Denied in San Antonio Case

In the Western District of Texas San Antonio Division the court denied the doctors' motion for a preliminary injunction. The plaintiffs Benedict and Phillips claim due process was violated when Floresville Memorial Hospital terminated their privileges. The decision notes no irreparable injury and that plaintiffs retain licenses and hospital staff positions. A class action remains possible later this year.

Bridge Hazards Noted in Wilson County Precinct One

The Wilson County commission reports 16 of 17 bridges in Precinct One are partially or wholly unsafe. A bridge over the Picosa near Floresville stretched and partially gave way at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday April 27 1981 while in use. Nearby San Antonio River bridge remains the lone safe crossing.

Sacred Heart School registration set for May week

Kindergarten through eighth grade registration at Sacred Heart School runs May 4 to May 8 in the Principal's office with hours 8 11 am and 3 4 pm. Fees are 15 for Kindergarten and 20 for Grades 1 8. birth certificate and immunization records required. Call 393 2117 for visits. Ann Powers, Principal.
