Peanut Festival Association elects new queen
Donna Cordes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. CO.E. Cordes, is elected queen for the Peanut Festival on October 9 and 10 by the festival directors. Elaine Lackness is first runner up, with Tera Reynolds and Katherine Robinson as other court members. The crowning will occur Friday, October 9 in Wiley Seale Auditorium.

Preliminary Injunction Denied in San Antonio Case
In the Western District of Texas San Antonio Division the court denied the doctors' motion for a preliminary injunction. The plaintiffs Benedict and Phillips claim due process was violated when Floresville Memorial Hospital terminated their privileges. The decision notes no irreparable injury and that plaintiffs retain licenses and hospital staff positions. A class action remains possible later this year.

Bridge Hazards Noted in Wilson County Precinct One
The Wilson County commission reports 16 of 17 bridges in Precinct One are partially or wholly unsafe. A bridge over the Picosa near Floresville stretched and partially gave way at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday April 27 1981 while in use. Nearby San Antonio River bridge remains the lone safe crossing.
