Floresville ISD voters will decide on selling 18.6 million dollars in bonds to fund a new middle school and renovations at all campuses to alleviate overcrowding. District projections show enrollment reaching 4,500 by 2009, signaling rapid growth and safety concerns.
A Thursday filming at the Frank Tejada Veterans Home in Floresville showcased what the State Veterans Home offers. VFW Post 8555 Ladies Auxiliary 8555 and American Legion 38 attended with entertainment by Imagen members Martha Figueroa, Debbie Ballin, and Erica Ballin.
Governor's wife Anita Perry visited Floresville to mark the downtown's Main Street City designation. Texas Historical Commission members and local officials attended the April 24 ceremony. Mrs. Perry delivered the keynote, unveiled the first architectural restoration drawing, and a reception followed at City Hall. More pictures to come next week.
Wilson County Commissioners Court met in Floresville to review interlocal options with Poth ISD about a wall for shifting track dirt, consider a reduced Aaron Construction bridge bid with shared work, and continue redistricting with 2000 precinct stats. The panel eyed freeing 40000 from 1998 flood funds for bridge repairs and declared May 3 2001 National Day of Prayer.
Wilson Memorial Hospital board discussed FY 2000 audit presented by Michael Oatman. They reviewed Community Advisory Committee hospital site recommendations, canceled unopposed district election, appointed Carl Zenner to Precinct 3, and ratified actions through May 2000 to present. Reports by Bob Duffield, contract with Wilson County Appraisal District approved, plaque for Mary Lynn Shear, La Vernia Clinic opening planned mid May, Veterans Home census 23 with 3 in Alzheimer wing. Executive session on recruitment and land acquisition led to option agreements for land north of Floresville on Highway 181.
The Texas Historical Commission named Nockenut Cemetery a Historic Texas Cemetery, first in Wilson County, authorizing a medal at its entrance. Designation applies to cemeteries at least 50 years old with notable historical associations, recorded in Floresville County Clerk records as part of the process. The designation and theme remain detailed in official records.
