Cancer Bike A Thon in Wilson County on April 26

Bikers in Wilson County will ride in a Cancer Bike A Thon on April 26 to raise funds for cancer research. Each rider seeks sponsors per mile with prizes for youngest and oldest, most miles, most money, and most sponsors across two age groups. Route covers 28 miles ending at the Wilson County Court House with a hilly, windy course. Sponsors sheets available at local businesses and schools soon.

Floresville Peanut Festival elects queen and court

Floresville event will elect this year’s queen and royal court during October’s festival. Candidates were introduced at a Coke Party held April 8 at Sam Fore Jr Library. The regular meeting on April 22 will finalize the new court. Board members listed include Bill Gleeson as president and Tom Ortmann as vice president.

New Principal at Sacred Heart School Named

At a April 7 school board meeting Sister James Marie Gonzalez was announced as principal for the 1981-82 year, replacing Ann Powers who returns to St. Johns College. Powerski resumes teaching in June. Registration for 1981-82 runs May 4 to 9, 9 AM to 3 PM. contact 393 2117 for details.

Registration for Pee ee Little Soag and Pony Base

Registration for Pee ee ages 7-9, Little Soag 10-12, and Pony Base 13-15 set for April 24 6 8 and April 25 9 12. Age is determined by the registration date. A 7.00 registration fee covers cap and T shirt. Proofs of age required. (416-20)

Floresville Seventh Grade Boys Win 27 AAA District Track Title

Floresville seventh grade boys capture the 27 AAA district title in the junior high meet held April 9. They totaled 178 points, led Bulverde 153 Medina Valley 56 Mountain Valley 47 and Bandera 34. Events saw Jesse Salinas take first in shot put and 100 yard dash, Roland Enriquez high jump and relay wins, and multiple top finishes across running events.

Floresville Junior High Band won first division in the U S L Concert Contest for prepared music, with sightreading earning second division. Band members and Mrs Teltschik praised the significant achievement after years since 1973.
