Wilson County's unemployment rate for February fell to 2.3 percent with 15,573 employed and 364 unemployed. The Alamo Area's rate was 3.1 percent, statewide 3.8 percent, and nationwide 4.2 percent. AWD executive director Dennis Blythe notes regional strength amid slower national trends.

Wilson County Proclaims April as Prevent Child Abuse Month
Wilson County Commissioners unanimously proclaimed April as Prevent Child Abuse Month at a April 9 meeting in Floresville. Welfare Board chair JoAnn Brechtel cited 173 alleged and 100 confirmed abuse cases, urging focus on high schoolers to prevent future abuse. The session also discussed a donated senior citizens van, a $350,000 flood grant project completion and seven bridges, a bid on CR 405 with Floresville, and Market Days permission for May 5.
