The hospital board in Wilson continues to discuss financing options for a new facility. The plan envisions construction with a lease back to the hospital for 25 to 30 years, with the lease term concluding at the end of the period.
Memorial Hospital District board moves to secure an investor via a tax exempt capital lease to finance construction and avoid taxpayer debt. Fullbright & Jaworski LLP hired to help locate funding. Budget notes show the veterans home behind by 414000 and hospital 314000 with deficits expected to 728000 as new residents arrive in April.
South Texas Regional Medical Center alerted patients after a nurse, once employed there, took narcotics from hospital supplies and was found HIV positive. While experts deem transmission risk very low, the hospital offered free HIV testing to all patients who received the drug, with letters in Spanish and English and bilingual counseling. Investigators estimate fewer than 200 patients could be affected.
Floresville Electric Light and Power System will launch a high speed wireless broadband service in late April. Subscribers near the FELPS office in Floresville can access Internet at up to 1.5 megabits per second with about 40 dollars monthly. The service uses radio signals requiring line of sight and will start within a three mile radius, with testing to determine full operation. Existing dial up remains available since 1999.
