A scare about a cabbage eating snake is debunked by Prof A B Forbes of Urbana who says the so called worm is a grasshopper parasite that enters cabbage during destruction. The tale affects sales with cabbage raiders canceling orders while readers report no danger in eating cabbage.
The Indiana State Board of Health ramps up anti diphtheria efforts warning against mild tonsillitis misdiagnosed cases. They report malignant diphtheria in several counties with deaths, including at a Brethren orphans' home in Mexico, Miami County. Secretary Hurty promotes antitoxin and plans lectures by Dr. J. J. Kenyan, a noted serum expert and former U S Health Officer at San Francisco.
An upcoming election changes road supervisor voting to a home rule system. Voters may choose only within the district of the supervisor, excluding incorporations. Elections occur Jan 14 with district trustees overseeing polls, two clerks, and inspectors. no public expense, no nominations required. Also reports a Delphi train accident injuring Edward Malotte and Theod. Steadman from Star City.
The Delphi Commercial club approves a machine shop project with Robert M Conn John Hufford Albert Smith and William S Deeds forming Delphi Machine Co to build a two story stone shop 30 by 60 feet at the belt road. The club provides land and 1400 dollars. seven year deed condition. minimum investment 3500 and several jobs. Conn formerly in Delphi and Flora band leader. Hatford runs a notable shop near Rossville.
A personal letter from J C Gwinn describes staying near Mission Ridge and Sherman’s Slaughter Pen in Tennessee. He notes proximity to a streetcar line, visits to Christian churches, and a social dinner at Dave Spiller’s with neighbors Niccum Eikenberry and Spitler. He remarks on local fruit prices and weather, and observes a large all colored church gathering in Churchville with one white attendee.
A new meat market to be run by Spitler and Hikenberry with The Big 4 Grocery begins about December 1. They have hired an experienced meat cutter and will buy all kinds of fat stock. Receipts at Hear the Bawthorn Club December 6 at the Mosier elevator.
Third month of school seen improved discipline under Prof Slabaugh with orderly marching and quiet walks. Okal Voorhees attended the world’s fair Tuesday night and seniors note Latin promotion. A box supper at Bringhurst schoolhouse raised about 60 dollars for the library. Miss Ledman won the prettiest girl cake prize amid lively bidding led by Mr. Wm Pruitt.
The Indiana Odd Fellows recounts standing in various categories with first in encampment, fifth in subordinate membership and initiations, and ninth in dues losses. It denies a mother or brother funded Chas Wagoner’s release in Kokomo and notes funds, if any, were raised locally. James B. Milner, U.S. consul at Calais, left for Washington and will sail to France to Cherbourg. Miss Cora Brown and Miss Maude Snoe berger visit Fiora as guests of Miss Toa Woodington.

The eleventh annual Carroll County Teachers Association session convenes at the M E Church today and tomorrow. Prof Byron W King of Chicago will lecture this evening at the church. Prof Gardner of Franklin College in Indiana preached at Sharon Church in the pastor’s absence.
Local notes report Calvin Reed a Moran 17 year old son of Milo Reed developing smallpox. The Christian Church led by A B Houze holds regular services Sunday with morning worship at 10 45 and evening at 7 30. Sermons address temptation and youth guidance. Other items note clerK Harry Reed’s installation in Carroll county and various visits, land ventures, and a fire damaging Parks Robinson’s farm home near Sedalia with partial insurance coverage.
Rockfield residents host and visit kin across nearby towns. Chas Wright travels to the world’s fair while John Moore P G Ray and Sylmin Timmons fish the Tippecanoe river. Several visits connect families in Logansport Lafayette Delphi Monon and White County. A church supper is announced for Thursday in town.
