A distressed gambler Barney Hopkins in Delphi jumped from the Pittsburg wagon bridge into the flooded Wabash after leaving a note naming Remington Press and Milford World as recipients. Residents and merchants of Burlington protest the Post Office Department plan to end the Star route mail service to Frankfort. They note increased isolation and hardship in sending and receiving mail. Congressman Landis has pressed the department in Washington to restore service. Since December first, Burlington relies entirely on rural carriers for all mail from the Frankfort office, which handles most of the area mail.
