William Jennings Bryan Draws Large Twin Falls Audience

William Jennings Bryan spoke for an hour and a half in Twin Falls city park on Sunday, drawing several thousand locals. It was his fourth visit to Twin Falls, with his family having visited the Perrine Blue Lakes Ranch 27 years ago. A G Pearson of the Twin Falls Ministerial Society introduced him as prayer and chorus numbers opened the event.

Masonic Lodge Receives Olive Wood Gavel From Jerusalem Quarries

The Masonic lodge receives a gavel carved from olive wood from the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. Gift accompanied by a letter from Franklin Squires who visited the Holy City on world travels. The shaft comes from Jerusalem quarried olive wood and was presented to Filer Lodge, A F and AM, by Earl La Hue, worshipful master.

Treacherous Snake Takes Another Life at Ford Rapids

Fisherman found the body of Mrs JC Ault, 44, of Gooding, lodged between rocks at Ford Rapids below Owleys ferry Sunday morning. Her husband and ranchers had spent Saturday afternoon to early Sunday searching the river shores for her after she disappeared Friday afternoon. Twin Falls County coroner P J Groseman took charge of the body.

Apple Prices Rise as Idaho Harvest Seen

Autumn equinox brings milder weather and a brief Indian summer in southern Idaho. Rain and predicted showers follow, but farm prices hold firm. Apples and Snake River fruit are being picked and packed with buyers present locally. Yesterday’s sales by local growers ranged from 44.50 to 48 per ton, boxes provided by the buyer.

Nampa Rider Wins 300 Mile State Capital Endurance Ride

A. T. Feamater of Nampa won the 300 mile endurance ride at the barracks Saturday, finishing in 47 hours 44 minutes for the best time. Bart Coleman of Meridian took second in 49 hours, with R. Cox of Grace third in 48 hours 32 minutes and R. J. Lankey fourth in 49 hours 93 minutes. Consolation prize went to Capt. John P. F. Goonan.

Public Health Inspectors Visit Twin Falls Schools

Mrs Frances Wann public health official arrived in Twin Falls to inspect county children, advise parents, and launch a tuberculosis crusade through district schools. A health conference on September 29 will discuss the program and invites public attendance for the schools.

Church Conference Set for October in Filer

By vote of the Eastern district Methodists, Filer is chosen to host the next district conference. It will be presided by Bishop Smit with dates to be fixed, likely in October. Three years ago a similar meeting was held in Filer with Bishop Burne presiding.

Beans and onions yield abundantly in Filer country

Data collected by Gay H. Shearer of the First National Bank shows varying yields from 1 to 45 bushels per acre across 12 growers in the area. Raymond Thomas reports the highest at 6 bushels per acre? hold. Shodrer average 44 bushels per acre on multiple acres. other growers report 15 to 41 bushels per acre with several fields totaling thousands of bushels.

Reservoir District Bonds Sold at Par Yesterday Morning

The Americans District Tax Exempt bonds of 2,498,000 were sold Wednesday morning to Marshall Meld, Glore Ward and Company of Chicago and Blythe Miller and Company for par with interest and a 3500 premium plus 6500 for bond attorney fees. Purchasers will pay on demand of the government. Other bids varied slightly. the award went to the best bidders after court ruling. Construction planning continues with dam contract set for Oct 20. Bonds are tax exempt, lowering effective interest. The sale outcome was considered unusually good for such tax exempt bonds. The board adjourned to reconvene at 3 pm to finish details. National Farm Bureau Officials Visit Twin Falls County

Otto, president of the Twin Pelle County Farm Bureau, announced that Chester H. Gray of the American Farm Bureau and Paul Nah of the Idaho Farm Bureau would address local farmers. Gray will outline national legislation and seek farmer opinion on four key Idaho bills in a meeting set for October 2 at an as yet unspecified time and location.

Dawson Arrested on Mann Act Charge

Dawson and Jane Dawson owners of a Twin Springs road house allegedly conspired to violate the Mann Act. Indicted by the September grand jury they were arrested in Elko Nevada amid federal probes. They also face charges under the prohibition law as federal agents have pursued them since late June.
