Farmers Mutual Power Company Purchases Site

The Farmers Mutual Power Company announces purchase of a power site at Clear Lakes for 43 000 dollars. Directors include Peter Erickson and H Murphy with plans to supply power to rural districts at cost, starting west of the county and expanding after securing franchises. The site will generate about 600 horsepower to serve roughly 3 000 customers, with further sites pursued to cover the whole tract.

Filer Post Elects Reynolds as Commander in Idaho Legion

George E Reynolds a former Army lieutenant was chosen Post Commander of the Filer American Legion at a meeting in Munyon and Son office. Juneau Shinn became vice commander with George Reichert adjutant and finance officer King Young historian Dale Chipman chaplain. An executive committee includes Earl Munyon and Harold Moore. Forty ex servicemen attended as the charter was granted marking the 47th Idaho post, the county s second after Twin Falls. A dance planned for Halloween and a strong drive for 100 members were announced. Regular meetings will be the first Monday each month in the city hall.

Sugar Beet Factory Assured For This Community Shortly

An Idaho cooperative beet sugar factory is projected for Filer with plans for operation next fall. Oswald Wilson and Arthur E. Anderson announced the venture, citing a Cedar Draw site near the OS Le railroad, strong organization, and favorable irrigation and transport. The company, based in Twin Falls, aims to supply beets through a cooperative stock plan, with financing by the Great Western Mortgage and Loan Co. Stock offers include 40,000 shares of preferred and common stock, backing a growing sugar industry in a major irrigation district.

Community Service Formed at Cedar Draw School House

At Cedar Draw school house six miles NW of Filer a community service club reorganized with C B Bohrer Kt H Musser Edna M Ludwig and A J O Reilly attending. About a dozen locals attended as officials were chosen for pest control clover seed and poultry projects. Coal shortages and a looming strike were discussed with concerns over heating fuel and supply.

New Grocery Supply House Opens As War Food Arrives

Postmaster Shinn launches a new grocery venture selling bacon rice corn pork and beans and hash. First shipment from the war department arrives at the local office with orders fulfilled for full cases cans or sticks during the November 1 to 20 open season. A Cedar Draw community meeting outlines plans for a county wide campaign to eradicate the pests described as destructive to the district. Officers LaMonte and Mrs Keesler host Maron Women’s Club at Marea School on October 30 urging attendance.

Roosevelt Memorial Drive Campaign Plans in Twin Falls County

Executive committee in Twin Falls approves Roosevelt Memorial Drive with quotas for Filer and nearby areas. Shorthorn Sale Draws Keen Bids at Fourteenth Auction

The first of four pare sheed Shorthorn sales held Tuesday drew bidders including HH Hidman and JG Hayden of Quitieford who sold 39 registered cattle for 1015 dollars total averaging 966 per head. Daisy Dean second brought 69 dollars, owned by JG Harden. Oonage Victoria Victoria Henry Crank of Nee fetched 415 dollars. The sale showed Geotch breeding and strong interest despite a small crowd.
