Under Lee R Hagel the Filer Department store stock damaged by fire on December 4 went up for sale Wednesday morning. W. W. Taylor led the effort after earlier fire losses from suspected wiring. About 200 shoppers queued outside as a 25 person sales force managed crowds, closing doors briefly to handle the rush. The sale drew the largest turnout in the store's history and continued into the evening.

Ford vs U S L Narrowly Avoids Death at Grade Crossing
An unknown driver in a stalled car narrowly escaped death Tuesday noon at a grade crossing on the highway northwest corner of Filer. A westbound passenger train struck the car but caused no injuries to the driver or passengers. The car overturned down an embankment after skirting the tracks. Rain had stopped by the time the train approached. The engineer and firemen assisted the motorist. The conductor and baggage man prepared a stretcher but was not needed.
