Rural High School Play Delights Audience

Students of Rural high school Astle presented the play Left Home at Geu theater drawing an elative crowd. More than $50 was cleared and donated to the Near Bast relief fund. The amateur cast, led by students, delivered high order acting with minimal coaching. Legion May Form A Legion Basketball Team

A special American Legion meeting in Filer is planned to discuss forming a Legion basketball team. If organized, the quintet would compete with Hurd high school and others as Reybraco hall is prepared with a ball and netting for a court. Coach Carter is reported to be developing a strong high school team and local posts hope to field a rival squad.

Quiet Christmas Observed in Filer Community

Filer and surrounding community spent Christmas quietly with little excitement. Widespread decorations, greetings, and holiday dinners marked the day. Post office and rural carriers worked overtime to deliver packages and greetings on time while merchants reported solid pre Christmas trade. Schools closed for the holiday and reopen Monday morning as residents enjoyed skating on the canal lake and a generally pleasant day.
