The first call of draftees from Ferdinand left Thursday for Huntingburg to join others bound for Camp Zachary Taylor in Louisville. A planned farewell in Senninger's hall was canceled. J. H. Beckmann spoke to the boys, urging courage and recalling Civil War days. Raymond Yellig, home on furlough, spoke in his sailor uniform about Cuba Vera Cruz and France, noting re enlistment and readiness to defend Old Glory. Ferdinand's quota includes William Hackmann, Robert Lange, Harry Gehlhausen, Martin Hoffmann, Robert Remke, Edward Helming, and Leo Seufert.

Irene Hollander, 19, only child of Mr and Mrs Joe Hollander, died in St Josephs Infirmary Louisville after brain tumor operation. Remains brought home Saturday night. interred Monday at 8 30 am in Catholic cemetery. Rev Celestine Sanders conducted services. Parents and relatives mourn the loss.
