Dubois County started its first draft shipment with 59 cents of quota sent to Camp Taylor in Louisville. The group from Huntingburg and nearby towns included Othmar Sprauer and Jasper Bobnert among others. A farewell banquet at the Indiana Hotel preceded a parade and a St. Joseph's hall concert, ending with a Star Band led sendoff at the depot.

Dubois County Council Sets Tax Levy and Bridges funds
The Dubois County Council met in regular session on Tuesday September 4 to approve annual appropriations and levy taxes. Members present included Beckmann Grammelspacher Zimmer Hoffmann Heitmann Becker and Bluemel. They funded two bridges in Columbia township and one in Madison Jackson and Ferdinand townships plus temporary bridges for Patoka and Cages townships. An appropriation of 500 was authorized for the County Council of Defense. The county fund levy is 40 cents per 100 and 1.00 per poll, with 11 cents per 100 for the Bond Fund. The meeting adjourned.

Mrs Balmer Dies at St Anthony After Illness
Mrs Anna Balmer aged about 46 died at St Anthony Tuesday evening from chronic diarrhoea and was buried in St Anthony cemetery yesterday morning. She leaves a husband. Mike Uebelher bought Charles Bartley’s old lumber from the Von Bakern property to build a sabon and lunch room on the north side of his Missouri street home.

Mrs Balear Hollinden Dies After Paralysis in St Meinrad
Mrs. Balear Hollinden born in Ferdinand died at 4:30 Monday at her daughter Frances Bumm’s home in St Meinrad after a three year paralysis and a second stroke. She was 66, born to Tony Wendling, lived in Mariah Hill and St Meinrad. Survived by six sons and two daughters including Joseph Jacob George Alois John Mike and Mrs Anna Metcalf. Burial in St Meinrad cemetery Wednesday morning at eight.

Two Appointed to Fill Vacancy of One
