Obituary of John C Knout Former Carpenter and Farmer
John C Knout born July 3 1838 in Prussia died Thursday afternoon after a week of illness from peritonitis. He came to America with his parents at age five, lived in Kentucky, then settled here and spent his life farming. He served as a private in Lieut Adam Frank 6th battery light artillery. Survived by six sons Clem Jasper Henry SD Frank Celestine Ed Evansville Ben and Joe this place and three daughters Mrs Jacob Englert Sr St Anthony Mrs Pius Oeding Terre Haute and Mrs Wm Helming this place. Wife Carolina Kemper preceded him in death. Interment was Sunday morning at Mt Ferdinand cemetery.

Town Board Awards Crossing Contract and Tax Changes
At the town board meeting Tuesday night Victor Roca & Co were awarded the concrete crossing contract on Ohio and Indiana streets. Two bids were Richard Riberg 125 and Victor Roca & Co 108. The annual tax levy and corporation tax were set with a reduction from 60 to 35 cents. A complaint about scorching cars on Main Street was deferred. The marshal was ordered to build a concrete crossing over the bridge on Ohio Street at Vienna Street. Charles Harpy received more time to finish the engine building.
