Armistice Day Celebrations Led by County Parade in Dubois

The county marks the Armistice anniversary with a large parade and program at the county capitol led by Governor Goodrich. Veterans groups, bands, Red Cross, and school units will march from St. Joseph’s church grounds at 10:30 am with a 11:00 am parade, 12:30 pm dinner, 2:00 pm singing, 2:30 pm address by Gov. Goodrich, medals at 3:00 pm, and a 4:00 pm community dance at Jasper Machine Works.

Former Prominent Citizen Frank Quante Dies at 86

Frank Quante, known to Ferdinand residents, died at the home of Herman Saalman in Ft. Smith Arkansas on Saturday October 18 from injuries after a fall. He helped locate an early railroad route, served as county surveyor in 1876, co-founded the German Mutual Fire Insurance Co. of Ferdinand, and ran Frank Quante & Co. before moving to Arkansas in 1908. His wife, once at Woodmere in Evansville, preceded him in death. Burial followed in Ferdinand.

Lamb convicted of second degree murder in Dubois County

Blythe Lamb was found guilty of murdering his sister in law Mrs. John Richerich at Petersburg and sentenced to Michigan City state prison as a second degree murder convict. He asked to be sentenced immediately after a long trial, a first for the county. Court costs exceed $1000 including juror meals. Also noted: marriage licenses issued and seven divorce actions granted. Mrs. Ausgabe Berger, about 55, died here Tuesday morning.

Muller and Muller set to open in Beckmann building

Leonard Muller and son Herbert purchased the Henry Beckmann store and will operate a new mercantile in the Beckmann building. Herbert and Miss Hattie Muller left for Louisville and Cincinnati to stock the store with a full line of merchandise. They bring prior retail experience from Reckelhoff and Muller and Jean & Co.

Civil Service Exam For Rural Carrier In Du Bois County

The United States Civil Service Commission announces an exam in Huntingburg on December 18 1919 to fill a rural carrier position at Ferdinand and vacancies on rural routes in Du Bois County Indiana. Open to county residents meeting Form 1977 requirements with admission for women limited to certain veterans spouses.

Halloween Parties and House Warming Highlight Social Week

A house warming for Mr. and Mrs. Anton Schaeffer drew many neighbors and relatives in Evansville on Wednesday night. Halloween decor and games filled Fleig's hall while a separate Evansville gathering celebrated Mr. and Mrs. John H. Dick in their new home with dancing and a late midnight lunch. The Colleens Irish comedy from Louisville is scheduled for Sunday night at the parochial school hall at eight.

Ferdinand Machine Works Changes Hands

Leonard Muller bought Ferdinand Machine Works with building and machinery for 16000 from Florens Kitten Sr and sold it to Mrs Jos Kitten. The business will keep the Ferdinand Machine Works name and be run by Anton Buschkoetter. An explosion injured Leo Vaal while handling a dynamite cap, leaving three fingers and a thumb damaged but salvageable. The accident happened Tuesday. There is a Senate House disagreement on adjourning the special session. One side wants November 10 and the other six weeks more. Only 24 votes were cast at Tuesday’s election with Herb Mueller winning clerktreasurer, Jos Mueller 22 votes, Henry Eversmann 21. they take office Jan 1, 1920.
