A forty hour devotion began Wednesday at St. Ferdinand's Church. The Beckmann home welcomed a baby girl last Friday morning. Gustav Werter added Lap robes and related goods to his offerings. A chiropra chi will be at Ferdinand biweekly starting Nov 10. Geo Bishof advises patrons to call by number due to exchange changes. Chas Rademaker offers fruit trees and seeds with guaranteed quality. Local street improvements near Math Olingers and Christ Morgan’s saloons occurred last Tuesday. An advertiser promises results. Mrs. Willian Wagner hosted friends with an afternoon of cards and a fine supper. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Math Morgan and others. John and Ed Daunhauer bought another Kitten traction engine, their third, signaling the engine’s popularity.

Box Social At Gehlhausen School Draws Crowd

The Tuesday night event at Gehlhausen School hosted by teacher Charles Barthley drew a well attended box social. Prizes included a box of stationery, with Miss Mayme Hollinden winning the most popular young lady contest by 400 votes. The overall contest totaled 15.25 dollars with boxes bringing in 6.00. All present reported an enjoyable time.

Government Labor Contact Opens Alien Work Lists

The Department of Commerce and Labor informs the Business Men's Club of Ferdinand Indiana that it will gather lists of members in need of labor and match them with employers. The letter requests member names, occupations, and cooperation to supply application blanks for suitable posts, to benefit skilled and unskilled workers including farm laborers domestics and settlers.

A surprise was tendered to Mr and Mrs John Jochum for their ninth anniversary on Sunday evening Oct 27 at 1202 Bilison Ave by Misses Mary Schum Anna Yellig Theresa Schum and Katie Seufert. Music and dancing followed with supper and refreshments.

Brother shot dead painter by kin in Tell City tragedy

Martin Hughes a Tell City painter was killed last Tuesday evening by his brother Charles after an earlier assault on their father. The brother, intoxicated, seized a shotgun and fired, the shot striking Martin in the neck and causing instant death.

Ferdinand Mourns Three Aged Settlers In One Week

Mrs Catharine Wagner of Ferdinand died Friday morning after a yearlong battle with heart disease. Born Cincinnati October 18 1841 she was 60 years old. She left four children with several grandchildren and other relatives residing in Ferdinand Louisville and nearby towns. Funeral was held Sunday from St Ferdinand Church and burial followed in St Ferdinand Cemetery. The News extends sympathy to the family.

Mrs John Schaefer Dies After Short Illness

Mrs John Schaefer, born in Germany on December 24, 1842, died Friday morning after a brief illness. Her many friends mourn her sudden departure, and she was nearing age 68 at the time of death.

Mrs Ben Dall Passes After Settling in Ferdinand

Mrs Ben Dall aged about 72, born in Germany, died last Wednesday morning. She left her husband and five living children Henry Dall A Bushkeetter Chas Bickwermer Henry Kitten and John Kitten, along with 201 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Five of her children had predeceased her. The family plans burial in St Ferdinand cemetery on Saturday. Sympathy is offered to the bereaved.
