Dubois County Council met Monday May 6 in a special session to consider selling 40 acres swamp land and to appropriate funds for a County Agent. Township trustees presented a 500 dollar check. council funded the agent position while trustees refused the current appointment. Trained Workers Sought for Army and Navy

The Army and Navy civil service branches seek thousands of qualified workers by the end of 1918, totaling at least 20 000. the Ordnance, Quartermaster, and Signal Corps call for engineers, draftsmen, chemists, clerks, inspectors, accountants, and stenographers, with the Navy offering many positions for drafted men and many technical roles.

Foreman narrowly escapes when motor hits engine pilot

Section foreman John Seger, returning from Huntingburg, rode 35 mph behind a backward moving engine at Greens Creek. The engine stopped, the motor struck the pilot, and Seger tumbled into a ditch. He suffered only scratches and bruises.

Mike and Bill Schwinghammer of St Henry attended the dance Tuesday night. Lawrence, Ida and Josephine Hase visited Huntingburg with Joe Smiths family last Sunday. Albert Hasenour of St Anthony and Miss Mary Kraimpe spent Sunday evening with Frank Moetager. Joe Bickwermert, John Durchhols and Ed Weyer attended the Indians Threshermen insurance meeting at Jasper last Friday. Robert Berg, Vincent and Harold Metzger, Misses Ross Krampe Irene and Marcella Metzger spent Sunday afternoon at Siberia. John H Lnake of Chicago is visiting here for a few days.

Dubois County Commissioners hold their May meeting to approve the International Steel and Iron Co. bid for a Madison township bridge. The session continued the rock road project in Jackson Township and rejected Dominic Hodgesang’s ditch bid. The board adjourned after inspecting local rock roads.
