Former Ferdinand people recount high water victims
A Ferdinand News reader recalls a catastrophic flood near Ferdinand and Jungletown on the Tensas river in April 1912. From near Quebec to Delhi, families abandoned homes, boats carried supplies, and many animals perished while houses floated and bridges washed away. The writer describes floating piano, furniture, and even a stranded house, notes scarce human lives, and ends hopeful for rebuilding once waters recede. A second note mentions a surprise birthday party for Henry Hollinden with dancing and abundant beer.
