In Indianapolis a federal suit by Illinois Trust and Savings Bank Chicago and Wm H Hinkle trustee seeks a receiver for Muncie Gas Light and Fuel Co. It claims 400 bonds of 400000 issued 1903 payable 1923 with 211 still outstanding, mortgage securing bonds, and large floating debt necessitating conservation of property for bondholders.
Vevay Indiana attorney Carroll Tandy and his wife with three daughters and Mrs Tandy’s brother were riding to Warsaw Kentucky when their auto struck a sand bed and toppled an embankment. The Kusciusko County bank of Warsaw was closed by the Auditor of State and Bank Inspector due to loans to officers and directors and to risky concerns. A recent exam found 17,000 loaned, 51,000 in state paper, 10,000 in overdrafts, 7,000 cash items, 12,000 in (not good) judgments, 6,000 notes, 12,691 owed to other banks, and about 45,000 in public money deposits. Stockholders numbered 24 with an estimated worth 250,000. auditors say stockholders can cover the shortage and depositors lose nothing.
In West Baden Indiana a mob of about 50 white residents rushed from the streets after two dynamite blasts damaged the European hotel leased by Charles Rice a colored man while no one was killed. The unrest stemmed from racial tension over alleged gambling and liquor sales at the hotel and white workers were discharged for serving colored men, sparking fear of a race war as unknown attackers fired at multiple sites with about 50 shots heard.
Four students at Earlham College in Richmond were reprimanded and dismissed for remaining term after a costly stroll. Lawrence Barrett and Joseph Wurnas of Indianapolis along with Misses Alice and Dorothy Quinby of Philadelphia were named in the faculty action.

Bertha Wiseman of Terre Haute Indiana received a gold watch she lost while shopping four years ago. The watch arrived via registered mail from New York with the return address Frank Clark general delivery. Separately Indianapolis professor Carl Barus died at age 74, longtime Maennerchor director and Saengerfest conductor.
