Gerhard Johannemann of Jasper dies suddenly at noon after returning from a picnic. Born in the township, he moved to Jasper about five years ago, ran a saloon for four years, and later worked as an ice plant engineer. Cause of death is heart weakness. Funeral held at Catholic cemetery with many locals in attendance.
A tribute to Frank Joseph of Jasper Indiana describes his life of service to St Ferdinand Church, including fundraising in 1888 at Runtz's Grove that yielded $800 for a tower clock. The note lists mourners and organizers of his funeral trip by train to Huntingburg. The item ends with an employment notice from Herrigl Seed Company seeking sales reps and local housing details.

Town board met in regular session with all members present. Numerous residents and visitors from Mariah Hill, Evansville, Huntingburg, St Meinrad, French Lick, Louisville and Ferdinand passed through town on business or for the Fourth of July celebrations. The board read and approved minutes, discussed monthly street testing and bridge replacements, and adjourned after routine reports.
All roads lead to St Henry for Sunday July 16 as a new church is dedicated in Dubois county. A parade will start after services, with a brass band of comic trades and other bands, including the Aid Society Band and Knights groups. A special Evanseville train will serve attendees to a grove picnic grounds with refreshments and amusements promised.
In Louisville on July 4 the ceremony joined Andrew Madson of Ferdinand and Mary R. Beikey of Ferdinand as husband and wife. Rev. Ignatius M. Wilkena oversaw the mass at St. Boniface Church. Attendants Catherine Remke and John Kohmescher assisted, followed by an all day reception at 641 East Orweaby Ave. The News editor offers best wishes for a long, happy marriage.
Residents of New Albany, Louisville, Dubois and nearby towns visited relatives this past week. Families including the Meyers, Müllers, Knapps, Baum, Spayd, and Hendechiegi attended gatherings, picnics, and funerals while several travelers returned home from visits in Portmouth, Urbena, and Maria Hill.
Mrs. Joseph Petry died after a weeks long illness caused by a screen wire puncture in the hand that led to blood poisoning. The injury required two hand operations and left the arm swollen black to the elbow before death at age 60 years 4 months, leaving a husband two sons and four daughters. Requiem mass was held at seven o clock Wednesday and interment followed at St Ferdinand cemetery. The News extends sympathy to the bereaved.
A guest from St Louis invites friends to call while in town at 4500 Manchester Ave., Cadat Buffet. Attendees include Migsen Francia Mebting Millie Kiteh Birdie Brom Eva Doreb holz Mrs CV Spayd and others. They visited Huntingburg on Tuesday at the home of Leo Snyder and family.
