The Rev Irl R Hicks announces the 1908 Almanac with colored cover half tones and astronomical engravings. It includes Hicks weather forecasts for the year and family reading material. priced 30 cents on news stands or 8 cents by mail, and a yearly subscription includes an almanac.
Personal M Olinger and Miss Mayme Hollinden traveled to Jasper Louisville and St Louis while Father Vincent toured St Meinrad to test an organ. Several residents visited family and attended funerals and church events across Jasper St Meinrad Huntingburg and Tell City with multiple trips noted to Louisana Evansville and Borden.
A fire at Henry Boehmann’s Tell City machine shop destroyed the building and caused an estimated $20,000 loss with $3,000 insured. The blaze was discovered by the night watchman but spread rapidly before help could arrive, and authorities suspect arson.
A severe blaze struck the Benedictine monastery in Louisiana on the Feast of St. Andrew. The fire began in the heating room and rapidly consumed the building, forcing priests to flee and claiming Frater Joseph Buck as he tried to rescue library keys.
Fr. Emilian Egler describes a swift blaze that consumed the new church and fourteen years of property. About 130 students were sent home on a special train while Fathers and locals, including Thomas Egler, worked to save life and aid survivors. A grateful appeal invites sympathy from Ferdinand residents.
Regular session notes bids for county attorney position with Milburn & Betz winning at 93. Samuel Glezen’s bid to reconsider is rejected. Wm. T. Young resigns as drainage commissioner and is named county surveyor. Several road petitions receive viewers and sworn in. Liquor license granted to Frank Kunkel. List of bills approved for road repairs and related expenses.
Miss Blanche Thiemann of Ferdinand Indiana, later Sister Meinrada, was invested at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, with eight other young ladies taking the Felicitas habit. Bishop Cronin celebrated high mass as clergy and relatives looked on during the ceremony. A four aria drama titled Patricia followed in the afternoon.
The Annual Meeting of Branch 588 CG K of A will be held December 15 at Sodality Hall. Attendees must be within five miles of Ferdinand and follow Article N1 of the branch bylaws. Leonard Mueller, Recording Secretary.
