Miss Emma Altmann oldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Altmann died at noon Wednesday after a two year illness with tuberculosis. She was 28 years 11 months and 13 days old. Survived by parents one sister and five brothers. Interment was at St Ferdinand cemetery after a requiem mass. The bereaved extend sympathy.
The county commissioners approved liquor licenses for F. H. Wellemeyer of Holland and Valentin Fleig of Ferdinand. They continued Vincennes Bridge Co. for Hayaville bridge at 11,956.99 and rejected Henry Berger as county surveyor. Philip Bamberger’s resignation was accepted. Coal contracts awarded to Wm. Giesler at 8.5 cents mine run and 8.0 cents clean coal. Albert Eckerle matched. John E. McFall won county attorney bid at 100 dollars yearly. Clock contract went to E. Howard Clock Co. of Chicago at 918 dollars. Seth Thomas 944 and Century Tower 885 dollars.

Robert Thoma, 22, of Fulda Indiana, was fatally struck by an inbound Southern passenger train about a mile from Rockport after sitting on the tracks to rest. He died about fifteen minutes after the impact. his body transported to Mayhall's morgue and shipped home. He leaves his mother Katherine Gostz and siblings. Funeral held Monday morning.
Floyd Bufkin of Wantingburg was convicted of second degree murder for killing Louis Weleman, a farmer, during an August 27 hunting incident after a venue change to Pike circuit court. The jury sentenced Bufkin to life imprisonment and he has filed a motion for a new trial.
Jobon Egg of Jasper died at his home Monday evening at six o'clock from ptomaine poisoning. He was 64, had worked for the Southern Express Co. 30 years, and was active the morning before his death. He leaves a wife and five children, and was known for playing bass violin with the Jasper orchestra on Nov. 20.
Isidore Schuhmacher, former county auditor, died Monday in New Albany at age 72 years and 21 days. His remains were sent to Jasper for burial at Fairview cemetery. Schuhmacher served two terms as auditor, elected October 1878 and October 1883.
