Prestigious Elder Jacob Gerber Passes at 87
Jacob Gerber born in Elsass Lutgring Germany in 1920 died Thursday evening aged 87. He arrived in America in 1840, worked as a cabinet maker in Cincinnati, moved to Ferdinand in 1842, and later ran a paint and furniture business with Dr Kempf before returning to the farm 22 years ago. Survived by two children Anton and Mary. wife Theresia Kircher predeceased him.

Death of Ben Kippenbrock Shocks Ferdinand Community

Engine breaks through bridge over Hunley's creek
Dier and Krupfs traction engine broke through a bridge while moving to thresh near Mr. Olingers farm last Friday. Front wheels crossed. rear wheels caused the bridge to crack and the engineer and pilot jumped off as the engine sank with about half submerged. Wm Daunhauers traction engine assisted to pull it out.

A Friday night theft deprived a well known local resident of about two bushels of dug potatoes drying under a back porch. A potato found outside the building helped identify the theft and alerted the neighbor who reported it the next morning.

Boy Severely Injured At Bolte Heading Mill
Math Kunkler 14, son of Geo Kunkler, was badly hurt at Bolte's heading mill three miles north of town while reaching for a fallen piece. His hand was drawn into a saw, tearing off a finger and wounding the hand. He received first aid from Dr. Schriefer and Dr. Wollenmann.
