Joseph Kitten Dies Of Heart Disease

The community mourns Joseph Kitten after a fatal valvular heart attack he suffered Friday morning while walking to the machine shop. He fell in his yard, struck his head on a cistern top, and died before coroner services. Kitten, 47, leaves his parents, wife, six children, and a legacy in the family business, Kitten Machine Works. Interment was at St. Ferdinand cemetery Monday.

Patriotic meeting draws large Ferdinand audience

Attorney Robert Armatrong of Huntingburg and postmaster John J. Nolan of Evansville spoke at Lenninger's hall last Sunday on buying Liberty Bonds and warned of German influence. Nolan praised Ferdinand as better than expected, while Horace M. Keene, county defense council president, thanked attendees for their behavior.

See Soldier Boys Parade Near Home in Huntingburg

Four hundred soldiers from Camp Zachary Taylor will parade in Huntingburg tomorrow to open the Third Liberty Loan. The 1:30 P.M. march from the depot ends at city hall with speeches by Lieutenant Governor Edgar D. Bush and others. A 30 piece band and artillery support the march, plus a special Ferdinand Railroad train at 1:00 P.M. for return after the celebration.

Dubois County Commissioners Convene April Meeting

The Dubois County Commissioners met April 1 for the regular session. Bills and quarterly reports from the clerk, recorder, sheriff, and auditor were read and approved. One janitorship bid from Henry Robhnanu at 45 dollars was accepted. Evansville Sand & Gravel Co. won the rock-furnishing bid. Jerome Parsons’ assistant Rock Road Superintendent appointment for Columbia township was approved. Dr L A Salb resigned as county Coroner and Wm Vaughn resigned as assistant Rock Road Supt. for Patoka township. Liquor license applications 31 filed were held until Supreme Court decision.

After initial stints at Fort Thomas and Kelley Field he is now at Long Island awaiting orders to deploy or move to another field. Dubois Circuit Court In Session

The Dubois circuit court heard cases with guilty plea in State versus Claude Brown for disturbing a religious meeting, fined five dollars plus costs. State versus Leo Wirtzberger for failing to send a child to school, bond taken, trial set for April. Several other civil actions were noted with trials by court or dismissal and special judge Stanley Krieg appointed for a later hearing.
